I'm sorry but this is a joke. Until SBW fights a real boxer and not some overweight or disabled boxer he is nothing more than a show pony!

Seriously, Baby Jake could have smacked that Tillman guy!

Still a good rugby player though.

Agreed, this is a joke. Put Vladimir Klitchko in there and see what happens.

Pretty sure if we tried real hard we could get Corrie Sanders to come out of retirement and smack SBW around a bit.

Now that I would pay to see.

All these short fat dudes SBW fights makes NZ boxing just look much bigger of a joke.

Well how do you get to fight the big names? Surely you have to fight the lower okes to get to fight the big names or do you just phone them and say hey i wanna fight you and it happens?

Pretty much yes.

Of course for the bigger boxers money is an issue. But because SBW is pulling such large numbers and publicity the bigger boxers will be able to get the cut they want.

I'm not saying Vladimir Klitsckho or David Haye must fight him.

But you want to tell me that guy was the best a sports mad country like NZ could come up with for a vacant NZ heavyweight title?

I'm not saying Vladimir Klitsckho or David Haye must fight him. David haye can't fight him as he retired if i am not mistaken. I would not under estimate the strength of sunny bill. He is fast and super fit plus he knows how to take a tackle. The big name boxers like vladimir are slow so you never know.

But you want to tell me that guy was the best a sports mad country like NZ could come up with for a vacant NZ heavyweight title?

Perhaps and you need to beat those kind of guys to get to the top. So as much as it seems like a joke i just cannot see any other way of becoming a big name boxer, you cannot simply book a fight with a champ if you are a nobody, even a huge rugby star would struggle.

They need to pull in big number to pay for the fight and a small unknown boxer may not attract the viewers, he may be a big name in NZ but is he a big name in boxing?

So regardless of who they put in front of him, he still has to beat them to climb the ladder.

Its all a money/publicity making thing. Put him up against people that aren't a challenge so he wins, thereby increasing awareness in SBW as a boxer. Plus, the TV rights must pay nicely so get as many easy wins as possible.

And he's not starting from the bottom though really, is he? He is a professional contact sport athlete who is a known boxing enthusiast, surely better competition in the ring would be the obvious decision. Its not like he signed up to Golds Gym and now wants a boxing career.

At least they could put up some amateur Australasian champion against him. All this is doing is increasing his already massive ego.

No but to become the champion you have to beat the contenders or current champion, so you cannot say o he is up against rubbish opponents, if they stand in his way for glory he must beat them. Look i have no idea if that guy he fought was the champion or what is going on in all honesty so maybe some can help me out in that regard :D

The title was vacant. No champ.

So these two chumps wanted to become champ and fought for it.

The biggest problem with boxing at the moment is that there are too many titles and nobody knows who the real champs are. WBF, WBA, IBF, WBO, WBC, etc.

It is ridiculous to say the least.
