Opel Astra gtc 1.9 cdti temperature?

So I got my car yesterday (Opel Astra GTC 1.9 cdti 2006) and only realized today it has no temperature guage, is this because it is a diesel?
 
Many, many newer cars don't have temperature gauges. Today's ADD-generation gets distracted too easily by even a moderate amount of information, I suppose.

Do keep in mind that the same wisdom that has always applied still does; DON'T burden the engine before everything's warmed up nicely. Modern cars warm up quite quickly though, so take it easy the first 5 minutes or so of journey and you'll be golden.

Also, being a turbo-diesel, let it breathe for a minute after a hard drive before switching off the engine, will ya'? ;)
 
Our BMW doesn't have a temperature gauge either.... annoying probably, but doesn't make a difference I suppose :p
 
This bugs the hell out of me. I had a loaner 6R polo for a couple of weeks - also no temperature gauge. I like to know when the car's warmed up, and i like to take action as soon as the gauge deviates from the norm. Blown head gaskets or warped heads from overheating are expensive.
 
Ya I Atleast let my car idle for 30-60s before taking of and then the same before switching the engine off.
 
Idling before pulling off is bad.

One can only hope there'd be a rather urgent warning from the car when the temp. begins to climb above normal. :erm:

Don't stress about it when you're heading out. It's actually better to let everything warm up together when you drive off initially. A minute won't do much - not in summer in any event - but please don't become one of those people who let their cars idle for 5 minutes on a cold winter's morning.
 
Anyone know if it is possible to change the built in mp3/cd player, if possible most probably costly, just not so happy with it when it comes to reading the discs doesn't always read it the first timeand seems to pick up the slightest of scratches on the disc.
 
To change the cd/mp3 player you'll need to take the car to a workshop that can do GM Tech 2 stuff. You need to "remove" the unit for the CANBUS system else the car will not start. If you fit a new unit you'll need to "add" it to the CANBUS system else the car won't start.

Personally I think not having a temperature gauge is the dumbest thing ever. My Astra's thermostat went bust after about 160,000km and the result was that the car never reached normal temperature. Without a temperature gauge there is no way you'll know this.
