MegaUpload had an incentive scheme where they paid users to upload and share content. That is supposedly where most of the piracy took place.

The other services don't have that incentive scheme.
 
Yup they basically paid for pirated goods so they could get money from subscribers downloading the content.

Very stupid if you ask me, they should have just upped all the shyte themselves and they should have been doing it from a country that is piracy friendly.

Well they didn't really think hard and long before they tried pulling that one off.
 
I strongly believe there is always a story behind the story, and this could be the story behind MU's demise :

I present to you... MegaBox. MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

I have found many times when someone sent me a link to megaupload, by the time I went there the item had been removed due to copy right infingment.

I wonder what the real story is here. This seems like a case of extremly specific targeting of the "weakest link" in the industry. What I mean is that he has a shady past and we all know New Zeland is very pro the music and film industry due to the revenue they get from projects that get produced there.

Then factor in that he is not native to New Zeland and he becomes the perfect scape goat ready for deportation.
