Telkom reinstates its revised offer
Because of its commitment towards employees, Telkom has reinstated its revised offer to the recognised unions.
Having considered the Memorandum of Demands given to the Company by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Solidarity on Monday, 27 March, Telkom has decided to reinstate its revised offer to organised labour, conditional to concluding a Collective Agreement on Substantive Matters by Wednesday, 5 April 2006.
Upon conclusion of the Collective Agreement on or before 5 April, the Company will retrospectively implement salary and related benefits with effect from 1 April 2006.
The revised offer is as follows:
Long Service Awards
The date of implementation is amended from 1 April 2006 to 1 January 2006. The amounts for the Long Service Awards in intervals of 5 year anniversaries will be as per the previous mandate.
Gainsharing
This improved offer will see the lowest paid employees receiving a whopping R10 000. The previous offer represented an increase of 69% for the lowest level employees, with some employees receiving up to 219%.
The revised offer represents an increase of more than 400% for the lowest level employees.
From 25 July 2006 until 25 July 2008 the following increment will be implemented:
¶ M6/S6 employees: an amount of R15 000
¶ OP1/OS/OP2 employees: an amount of R12 000
¶ A/OP1L employees: an amount of R10 000
Compression of Grades (movement within a salary range)
The benefit will only apply to employees on OP1, OS, OP2, OP1L and A levels. Employees who do not meet ("N") their performance targets will not qualify for this benefit.
Only employees below the threshold of the salary level will benefit by receiving the following amounts added to their basic salary:
¶ OP1/OS: R2 150
¶ OP2: R1 722
¶ A/OP1L: R1 307
It should be noted that almost 99 percent of our employees always meet their targets.
The reinstatement of Telkom's revised offer is a sincere attempt by the Company to bring to conclusion the substantive negotiations in a spirit on conciliation.
