My dad figured out the internet, now wants music for his "UBS"

My dad replaced his car radio the other day after it got stolen out the car and it came with the USB option. **** knows who told him he could load up some MP3's on the USB (or UBS as he calls it), but after showing him the basics of email/browsing, he has now discovered you can download music.

Problem is, he's not really proficient with torrents and such, and still struggles with the right keywords to get what he wants. So he's enlisted me to find some music for him HOWEVER, he can't name any bands he wants :p (my dad isn't all that much into music but he does have a couple of dozen CD's after his small LP collection bit the dust)

He's after 60's/70's music. Can anyone recommend bands from that era that you think he might like? He's turning 60 next year if that gives you any indication. He's grown accustomed to my metal playing in my car whenever he borrows it, but said he'd rather not have Pantera play in his new stereo :p

Genre might help narrow this down a bit... That said, the best selling acts of the 70s were Elvis, Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, Chicago, the Stones, The Bee Gees, John Denver, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan. Best selling 60s acts were Elvis & the Stones again, The Beatles, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Pride and Brenda Lee.

Off the top of my head, throw in some Queen, Eagles, Meatloaf, Led Zep, The Doors, Foreigner, The Kinks, The Who, Genesis, Bowie, Roxy Music, Simon & Garfunkel, Beach Boys, Smokey Robinson, Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, Creedence, Bob Seger, Floyd, Springsteen, Ronstadt, The Moody Blues, The Mama's & The Papa's and maybe even a little Velvet Underground, The Clash or Ramones.

EDIT: Don't forget the Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin... Always good.

What does he have in the line of CD's? That will give a good indication of the type of music he likes.
It also depends on whether he likes American, British or European music/bands.

lol. Well the house burned (hence losing his LP's) and he bought new CD's. Stuff like bokjol volume 3 and others. Think I'll go have a look again, think he even has a creed CD in there lol
 
The title of this thread made me LOL! Anyway I think the posters above have got it just about right. Assuming that you're at your most impressionable between the ages of say 15 to 25, your father grew up in the absolute golden age of rock in my opinion, 1968 - 1978, whew... what a Decade! In doing your compilation don't be surprised if your musical horizons are also broadened a wee bit!

You won't believe how accomplished some elders feel when they start using a bit of modern technology.

Acid teach him how to strip the audio from youtube vids. That way there is no risk of legal troubles, he can see what he is getting & has a large selection.

When limewire was still at its peak I showed my mom how to download music.
She became a huge downloader of old music, stuff you couldn't even get commercially anymore.
She downloaded gigabytes of music.
 
Tell him to go onto something like last.fm and click around randomly till he finds his preferred stuff. Then it'll be easy for him to get artist names and maybe even find new stuff.
