Teachers in trouble over sleeping with pupils

PARENTS and pupils have threatened "action" if three Esiqiwini High School teachers in nortnern Zululand, who have allegedly been involved in sexual relationships with pupils, are not expelled.

Earlier this month four teachers at Mahlontebe Secondary School in Limpopo were temporarily removed from the school after pupils accused them of sexually abusing female pupils.

This happened after a Grade 11 pupil allegedly damaged one of the teachers' vehicle, accusing him of cheating.

The small Mtubatuba community in northern Zululand has been trying to get the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education to investigate the sex allegations since 2009.

Their frustration grew last year when a teacher admitted that he had fathered a baby of a matric pupil.

The teacher is said to have paid "damages" to the girl's parents after admitting responsibility.

This was after a local social crime prevention organisation in the area investigated and found that the allegations were true.

"At the time we called a meeting with the school governing body and the implicated teachers promised to stop. But it appears one of them did not stop until he impregnated the pupil last year," the organisation's chairman Senzo Mkhwanazi said.

The school's governing body chairman Eliazah Ntshangase confirmed that a pupil was currently raising a child fathered by a teacher.

He warned that parents and pupils were "angry" and "fed-up" about the situation.

"It is really bad and if nothing is done it might get out of hand."

KwaZulu-Natal Education departmental spokesman Sihle Mlotshwa said the department was aware of the allegations.

"The district has asked the said teacher to make a statement and a decision will be taken as informed by the facts presented to the district," he said.

She might be 18 but an educator should lead by example and also it is never a good thing to shyt on your own door step.

Rape the girls, pay off the parents - there has to be a lesson in there somewhere it just eludes me at this time ..

She might be 18 but she is still in school. How is that the teachers who are put in a position of trust abuse that trust by exploiting vulnerable adolescents? Teacher is an educated adult but making school girl preggies is like flushing down the drain their future.

Lol dude. They're in grade 11. Definitely not rape. In my school there were grade 8 female pupils caught giving guys blow jobs in the bathrooms.

How do you know it wasn't rape? A teacher is an authority figure and much older which creates a power imbalance. It could well be considered rape.
 
Then what is consensual? When she says yes, or says nothing and the guy rips her clothes off.
Or is the rape when she didn't say yes, but actions depict otherwise? Or she says no, but actions didn't back it up?

Might be considered sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is intimidation, bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favours i.e. suck my balls in exchange for good grades....:)

No, not at all. I'm not saying it was or wasn't rape - but it could have been rape - or coercive. Your statement that this was definitely not rape because girls at your school were sexually active, is just ridiculous.
A teacher is an adult with world experience, an authority figure who is supposed to be educating children, not having sex with them and getting them pregnant. Even if she instigated it, he should have turned her down and had her speak with a councilor.
A teacher is an authority figure who is supposed to be looking after the well being of the child - many children are afraid to confront authority figures, to challenge them. Many are not even aware that they can so no to an authority figure and yes, although she may be 18, she should be having sex with people in her age group and her teacher should know better. As for 'women are attracted to power - she is a teenager, not an adult, and good luck to any woman who finds herself in a relationship in which she has no power at all.
