Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2

Next Generation ? Is it even as good as the previous model, for which you can surely get ICS ?

After all my ancient Xoom 1 is running ICS (factory supplied) ?
 
This is a fail from Samsung. How can they bring out a "next-generation" device, yet it still has the same hardware specs as the current generation?? I would have expected at least a 1.5Ghz dual core processor, or even a quad core processor, with 2GB of RAM. Higher screen resolution (higher PPI count), and better cameras.

My Galaxy S2 is way better than this so called Galaxy Tab "2" as well as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 when I still had it. I could feel the sluggishness of the 10.1 Tab compared to my S2 phone.

I think some of you have problem reading... But I agree. "Next generation" is the wrong wording.

As long as it's at the right price point it can be a success.
Reading the original article it doesn't look like it though.
Despite the Tab 7.0 Plus's low starting price, it has slightly better specs than the Tab 2

So another giant-phone-that-can't-make-calls, with lesser specs than the current phones like the Galaxy SII or Nexus (both of which CAN make calls AND fit into your pocket)?

Fail.

I use use the word "next generation" not only because the article uses it, but also because the name of the product - Galaxy Tab 2 - implies a new generation.

Think of {iPad, iPad 2} or {iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3Gs, 4s} or {Galaxy S, S2}. Each iteration implies a new generation device. This is a real fail from Samsung. They seem to be going the way Nokia did in terms of their numbering and naming system - all over the place. Not a good sign at all.

Though I'm not a fan of Apple devices, I must concede that having a single device, with a single naming/numbering system, is far easier for consumers to follow.

Advice to Samsung - KISS.

The Tab Plus has slightly better specifications that the Tab 2, it features a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. However it does run an older version of the Android operating system.

So the only benefit of the newer device is that it comes pre-loaded with ICS? This isn't an unveiling, its a software upgrade!
 
^ It is quite a lot thinner and better looking than the original Galaxy Tab. So not "just a software upgrade" ICS is also a huge jump from Android 2 or 3, so I think it's definitely worthwhile.

Samsung's product line is indeed confusing and huge, although this is normal for most electronics & PC manufacturers. There's the Galaxy Tab 7.7 as well, which has better specs - so that should be the "premium" tablet at this size, this will be the budget one.

They must focus on getting all their other Galaxy Tabs and phones on ICS now too.

I fully get where you are coming from and wasn't knocking your use of "next generation" but rather the articles. I was also trying to stress the supposed "budget" part as well. I'm assuming it's the low end of the next generation with more expensive and better spec'd devices soon to come.

Hence me talking about it's pricing point which looks quite fail at the moment in comparison with the older devices..
