TVs in South Africa: Samsung versus LG

I was just thinking about this earlier, especially with both companies having announced 55" OLED television sets.

I think LG will win that small 3D crap market but Samsung will take the crown. LG has a bit of a Japanese tint to it, being slow to react and Samsung is just a huge huge company that has a lot more capabilities in house than LG does.

3D gimmick bs such a waste...but if it drives down prices of tv's idc

In the overall scheme of things, these companies are so large that the SA market is insignificant to either other than, as stated in the article, the African market.

Lg is brilliant, but at the moment, i think samsung is winning in sales. There incentives are better. Sales guys tend to push the product with the highest incentives..

Not sure about Samsung but LG after sale service is shocking. 1 less buyer for LG!

Have the Samsung 42" plasma and I'm gonna have to love it for a few more years.

It has 3d capability apparently, but really not interested in that.
Must be a gimmick for single people with no friends.

Samsung sees South Africa as one of their core markets and a key avenue for the brand as part of their larger investment into Africa.

Not completely wrong. Unlike other African countries, our appetites for the latest tech is the same as developed countries, although yes, at a smaller size. But it is still significant, as South Africa is a precursor for other African countries for consumer products.

Thanks for the heads up!

Anyway Samsung must be so very far ahead in sales in SA its not even funny. Overall their products are pretty awesome, from their cellphones to washing machines. They actually also have Samsung heavy industries, one of the largest ship builders in the world.

To most African countries its a precursor but not to all. Sometimes things come out quicker in Kenya than South Africa. But your point stands :)

Alot of people say that 3D is a gimmick. And I agree it used to be a gimmick in the past with the older technology. The new technology is becoming better and cheaper especially LG with passive 3D. My experience has been that modern 3D enhances a good movie in the same way HD enhanced SD when it came along. Only problem with modern 3D is content, there is very little available especially in SA but once that is sorted 3D deserves a chance.

We do not have enough HD content at the moment never mind 3D
