Suppliers/E-tailers - HD7770 eta in SA?

Many of our local online stores managed to get stock of the HD7970 pretty soon after it launched.

Any idea when we shall see the 7770 and in what price range?

Those cards are starting to show up on price lists, you can expect a retail price of +- R2k and we should see them any day now.
 
Ouch. I wanna get a 7770 and the new Ivybridge i3 cpu when it comes out. I have a feeling I will have to wait a couple of months for the prices to drop though.
 
Yeah, the 6xxx series is much better value at the moment, the 7950 and 7970 are also overpriced. I'm sure they'll come to their senses when there is something to compete with them.
 
Atm the prices on the 6850 are about R1800-R2000, so even though the 6850 and 7770 are close performance wise, I'd pay be quite happy to pay a R100 to R200 premium for the lower power requirements.

I currently have a 450W PSU and am not sure if I have 2 6 pin connectors (it seems likely, but I will check when I get home). So I'd rather pay R2200 for a 7770 that requires a single 6 pin connector, than have to buy a new card and a new PSU.

If I do have two six pin connectors, it's really a question of how big the difference in power consumption is between the 6850 and 7770, and whether it might actually save on electricity in the long run.
 
The 7770 tdp is 80 watts.
The 6850 is 127 watts.

So you are looking at about a 50 watt difference under load, not taking into account the 7770 uses only about 6 watts at idle.
Overall power consumption will be significantly lower on the 7770 and generates less heat and noise.

Got home, checked it out. Only one 6 pin connector. It seems I have to dump more than R800 if I want a PSU with 2 6 pin connectors and an 8 pin connector. No thanks, I guess I'll just get a 7770 and be happy with the lower power requirements, even if the performance isn't mind blowing.
 
My 6850 ran great on a 430W PSU and only takes one 6pin connector...
 
How old is your 6850 P924? I did some googling and it seems a lot of the newer 6850's come with two 6 pin connectors because only having one meant it wasn't getting enough power at peak loads.
 
Hmmm, good question. It is one of the earlier ones. I must say, I have not had any problems so far...

Cheapie HIPRO 430W that came with my old gigabyte case. (I had to add the PCIe power connector myself as it didn't have one. Yes, I am somewhat reckless sometimes :) )
 
Well, at least it is getting some good power now from my AX650 :)
