Hi guys
my mom is looking for acar & wants to pay R2 500 max per month.

any suggestions?

I asked her to look at

new:
Nissan Micra or Hyundai i10

2nd hand:
2006 corsa
yaris

any idea how those *drive a new car for R599 per month* things work? she's even willing to drive around with that as long as she gets a car

That'll buy you a car in the R100k to R120k range, without insurance. You can get a lot of car for that on the second-hand market, but only little econoboxes if you're looking at new or nearly new.

Depending on your mom's needs a new Picanto (subjectively nicer than the i10) might suit her better than an older, bigger, higher spec'd car.

As for the "*drive a new car for R599 per month* things" - stay away. You still pay your instalment up front every month, but then supposedly you get reimbursed a portion depending on whether you covered the agreed mileage in that month. It's a borderline scam.

I have a micra, its got way more space and features then the Hyundai. My car is almost paid off now and I love it.... going to keep it for a while

Just FYI:

I got a demo for R100 000, put down R25 000 and took a 36 000 residual. The monthly repayments were about R1300 - R1500.
The insurance was R1000 (I was 25 and had been in a few accidents and I was a male)

So its possible to do it for R2500 pm

My insurance is R450 now so it can be much cheaper.

Paid off finance, or finance with residual? How you do it?

Hyundai 120 or Ford Ka ftw!!!

New Ford KA might be worth the wait. Just had one on hire in UK ...very nice.

My folks just retired..I found them a 2010 Getz 1.4 High Spec with 15000km on the clock on Hyundai R99900 special all in..balance of warranty and 45000km service plan. Insurance is like R210.
