These people are scumbags. What's worse is that you will get people out there that will fall for this. What a shame.
 
ha ha, you sign up and they send you your "webiste". Then you ask them a for a website, and they tell you thats extra.

This is my concern, people are not educated enough and don't understand the basic principle of you get what you pay for

Doesn’t necessarily mean the work is bad. It’s a sound business principle- subsidise the product and make your money on the monthly upkeep. Printer manufacturers do this all the time.
Must say though, that add is atrocious- doesn’t inspire much confidence.

Well, tbh, I wouldn't want to do any work for someone who is uneducated and don't understand the basic principle of you get what you pay for you.

There is also another saying that people should be aware of: "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is"
 
Plus - if they decide to use your [more expensive] services rather, then they will try to negotiate your price down ...

Haha got to be the best use of markup I've ever seen, makes me think of THIS

Haha so Byron did you pay the man? My money is on the page looking something like his add, lots and lots op pwetty colors mixed together.... The hosting is probably on a subdomain.

Loooool this is scary I wonder how many people have signed up though they will get a nice rainbow website now .....

You get what you pay for like comparing a corner cafe with Woolworth's this amazes me that people will go so low cost because if you think about it

You website is your business image on-line 24/7 every day of the year (Of course depending on the hosting as well)

So save a buck and pay R20 for a site ......

Just noticed now they actually have a land line number scary ...

Well I believe that prospective clients who find adverts like that attractive deserve the second-rate service they will (probably) recieve. Of course that's totally judging a book by it's cover, they might be pretty good. I've seen some more expensive web designers cripple functionality and scalability by relying too much on graphic representation.

I considered it that they might possibly be good but wrote that idea off as they advertise on gumtree. Iiknow friends of mine have got a small startup going and they work for free... Just to get a portfolio going, they also offer like a years worth of free hosting on their dedi. From the outside they seem like a scam, free hosting and a 10 page custom website, who would think someone offering this is legit?

For all we know these okes can be hard coding monster websites but the advertising method is wrong, instead of killing yourself for R20, why not make yourself a super impressive site to at least seem legit. I generally expect to see a decent hard coded site or an open source template with quite a few visual modifications when looking for a graphic designer.
 
Imagine if lawyers and doctors where stupid enough to price themselves out of the market.

Sheesh, help your industry don't destroy it. Sometimes I wonder about the IT industry. Doctors have far more business acumen then us it seems.

I was going to add this - could be someone fresh out of school/tech, living with parents with 0 overheads and wanting to break into the field.
IF this is the case, then it's a little misguided but it's a start for that person, I suppose..

6 years at Uni + two-year internship + 1 year community service (source) and that's just for a GP vs any chump who can call himself a 'developer'.

Well how many are calling themselves "developers" and they have no formal qualification at all, dont know what HTML even is, yet they make sites in Word Press or Joomla or Site Builders

Even if his fresh out of school the oke is still an idiot. Gosh I remeber the line in my Delphi textbook stating not to use every color a screen supports when designing any form of interface. I would pay someone like this though, just to feel better about not calling myself a developer but being able to mock something up that would look 100 times better than his add.
