Best TV size for 3 meter distance

I'm planning on getting a plasma/LCD/LED(whatever) and I'm liking a 46" plasma but I'm worried it might be too big for our TV room.
So I measured our TV room and it will be almost 3m exactly from head to TV.
It will be plugged into a mede8ter only(not even going to bother with the antennae anymore since no one watches SABC here), if that makes any difference.

Can anyone give give some advice as to the best size?
 
No such thing as a "too big TV". :) I watch from the same distance and 46" is fine.
I use my mede8ter for HD content and am concidering getting a new 50"-55" set.
 
Had a 50" for about 2.5m or 3m I think now changed to a 46" LED, never to big
 
Make sure your media is HD on a big screen TV.
I'd say 46" max - the screen can be too big, IMHO.
 
i got a 51" at about 2.5m and it is perfect, when i first got it, i was like no ways its a bit too big, 4months down the line its not big enough:P but still quite a decent size
 
I can't really talk about plasma, is 3m is the closest or furthest seat from the TV?

When I set 3m away from my 40" I wish I had a 46".
 
+1 for the 46"

I'm not so sure I'd go larger, but I'd need to see
 
I'm also looking to upgrade my old 32" in a room the same size. I see there are a couple of 42"ers which I was considering as I thought 46" would be too big.

Seriously guys, do your eyes not have to move around too much to take all the detail in when you watch a 50-55" screen from 2.5-3m?
 
I've got a 50' plasma at about 3m. Took about a week or 2 to get used to, but after a while it becomes 'normal'. Anything smaller would look too small. I've also got a 160' projector screen at around 5.5m. Never too big:p

Its the couch against the opposing wall, everything else is the same distance but at a further angle
 
I would say 42" will be suitable then anything less than 2.5m would be too close

Just trust us. Any size you get will be too small after one month. For three weeks I was amazingly happy with my 40". By week 4 I wanted a 46" instead.

Get the biggest you can afford.

I seriously don't understand don't you guys notice the difference in picture quality? I have a 42 inch at home and sitting in that one seat that is a little closer to the tv the others I really notice the drop in picture quality. Best thing the OP can do is go and check out and the TVs himself and sees if he can notice the difference between picture quality at his viewing distance on various different sized screens

I have spend lunchtimes in makro testing video playing capabilites of anything that had a USB port with video capability
I have spend lunchtimes in hi-fi corp, deon wired etc comparing this and that.
Sure you an have a super dooper(pooper?) 3D monster @ R30k, but who has that in their back pocket?

Here's what I found, and remember:
I could not tell Supersport HD apart on a 1080 sony 32" vs a 720 byd:sign 32"
I saw squares produced when there was a lot of motion on a 50" or 55" Hisense playing ice age 3 (where the sabretooth got exhausted changing a deer) irritated me
The LG (32LK430) played the avi, mp4(H.264) and 1080 sintel mkv !!

Eventually I saw a plasma(a 46") playing monsters vs aliens, and it was as crisp as hell, and I basically made my mind up, screw LCD and LED and the 3D yada yada.

Be nice if I could take the mede8ter with to test one out though...
 
What's your goal? If you're looking for an immersive experience then the THX recommendation is at least 63" for 3m away. They recommend sitting closer than that, but you can be up to 3m away.
