Has Amazon made their country restrictions recently?

I've been using a US billing address for my Kindle ever since I bought it and haven't had any issues buying stuff up until last week, however just tried to buy a book now and it says that I'm purchasing from a different country.

I haven't changed anything on my side, so I'm assuming Amazon are clamping down harder on people buying from the 'wrong' market.

Just noticed the book I want is $2 more when I have a SA billing address, fun-tas-tic. $2 ain't much, so I'm not fussing now but if I'm going to start having to pay ridiculous SA level prices again perhaps I'll turn to other, err, more shady sources for my reading pleasure.

It never ceases to amaze me, the boundless enthusiasm companies have for shooting themselves in the foot. Sony just bit me with their region lock on the PS3, guess what Sony, I'm still gonna watch movies, only now I'm paying for hard drives instead of blu rays.
 
Just checking around, the prices are different but not always higher. However stuff on my wishlist that was available for Kindle now suddenly isn't.

Not saying anything new I guess, for some reason we aren't allowed to have nice stuff for very long.
 
Its picking up your IP adress and the reason it costs more is most likely that someone else has the local publishing rights.
 
Yeah, figured that. It wasn't doing it last week, just checked & my IP hasn't changed since then. Anyway, it hasn't screwed me too badly yet. Maybe if I use the built in 3g and see what happens....
 
They also check credit card's these days, so if your credit card is an SA issued one, you might run into trouble as well

If you have a friend in the US, send him a gift using your Amazon account, and keep that address as your Amazon billing/shipping address.
A purchase that requires US ground shipping every year or so keeps the Amazon IP address detector off your back.
