Would do you guys rate as the better guitarist? Or who do you reckon is better than them? Clapton for me - not a big fan of Santana's style.

I like both styles of play. Its hard to choose one over the other. Their music generes are Poles apart. I listen to more of Santana's stuff then Clapton though.

I think this guy:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/Joe_Bonamassa_en_el_Festival_de_la_Guitarra_de_C%C 3%B3rdoba.jpg

Is 'better' than both of 'em.

They are both awesome artists. However as a guitarist I reckon Santana takes it, while Clapton is a way better song writer.

Rolling Stone have the top five guitarists as :

Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and Jeff Beck

Of the 2... definitely Clapton...

Bonamassa, of course, is a legend and I quite like John Mayer(not the commercial stuff)... live!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31oOciIKogE

Oh and for those that didn't know Cocaine is JJ Cale's number, Clapton covers it!

Kurt Cobain would have made it to the top of that list had he stuck around till after admission..

What about Chad Taylor of Live?

EDIT: Andreas Kisser!!!!! Sepultura?!!!! Not everyone's style of music but proficient musicians inspite of the genre!!

Eric Clapton with Derek and the Dominoes (Layla) or Cream (I'm so glad).

Santana (Evil ways, Black magic woman, even Smooth)

George Harrison was only average. If you're looking for someone else, try Stephen Stills or even George Benson.

Don't forget James Marshall H...

Yep, forgot about Edge. His solo at the end of With or Without You is one of the most epic things in music. You might enjoy this:

One of my favourites. The solo right at the end is unbelievable. The technique, the soul, everything about this is just pure genius.
