Police Clearance Certificate for a vehicle

I have a Fox 1989 of which the engine was recently replaced.

I went to the Police Clearance Unit and got a certificate in Empangeni were I was staying at that time and thought it was all done.

I tried to renew my license the other day, and the 'system' (I presume this is Natis) states that I have to have a Police Clearance, so it seems it hasn't been updated.

I have now moved to Randburg....

Does this mean the whole process has to be done again? Or could I just go to a Police Clearance Unit (I dunno where in Randburg or GP - help pls? ;) ) and they would be able to update it?
 
Hey Eugene. Police Clearances are basically a 3 step process. You obtain the Clearance Forms from a Licensing Authority. The SAPS Clearance Unit clear the vehicle and complete the forms. The forms need to be returned to the Licensing Authority so that the vehicle can be marked as cleared on our side as well. The forms are retained by us.

I assume the third step wasn't followed in your case. You have two options. If you still have those completed forms then just tender those and the Licensing Office will complete the process. If you have lost them ask the Licensing Office for a new set. You would need to take these back to a Clearance Unit though and then hand back to the Licensing Office.

strange, I think some one didn't do their job

I have done two police clearance exercises before at Pretoria Watloo Testing Centre

1. Fill in the forms at the police clearance unit, with ID's , engine purchase invoice, etc...
2. Wait till someone inspects the engine number
3. Wait some more for them to do their computer thing
4. They say it is ok and give your form back to you stamped
5. Go get a new licence disc printed
6. Notice the new Engine number on your disc
7. Get in your car and leave

Vehicle Police Clearance

Sorry for resurrecting this old post :)

I went to Centurion's Traffic Department close to Irene ARC - had two copies of my ID filled in two forms there at the office. Everything done within an hour!

What you'll need -

  • Data Dot Certificate
  • Vehicle Registration Form
  • Two copies of your ID
  • A smile and some humility

sorry to hi-jack the thread but I have a quick question. I need clearance as well my car was stolen recovered but the emptied the car when they dumped it including the original licensing documentation, where can I get a replacement? will I not be able to get clearance?

What do you mean by original licensing documentation? :confused:
 
Does anyone know where I can get clearance for an engine change in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape area?

How soon was it recovered?

I would not want that shyte back once marked S. It's worth fark all.
 
Hi all, sorry but I need some assistance with a related issue. I'm looking to purchase a vehicle from SMD, this is my first auction purchase and really need some constructive advice asap.
It's a code 2 stolen and recovered vehicle, without license plates, to my understanding once the vehicle is purchased I will need to do the following :
  1. Get the "S" stamp removed (not sure of the process)
  2. Get police clearance (not sure of the process but I've read this can be don't at the SAPS clearance unit)
  3. Get datadot certification
  4. Documents required (ID copies X2, proof of residence, proof of purchase/sale)
I feel like the process seems to simple just from research, what seems too good to be true usually is...

Im located in Durban Kzn and would appreciate any assistance or advice.
