I've been driving for more than a decade, and decided to go get a bike license (always wanted one) -

Passed my learners this morning.

Would prefer to learn how to drive offroad, so that if, make that when, I or the bike falls, it will have less damage :P

So i've been thinking of buying a scrambler of sorts, at least 175CC or 200 - I weigh in at 90kg.

Please advise as to what is cheap, decent and fun to get - so I can be prepared for when I buy a real bike.

Thanks guys.

Budget?

The cheaper the offroad bike the crappier the condition and the more money you have to pump into the thing. Talking second hand here.

My choice would be a KTM 200 or Gas Gas 200 (if you still get GG in this country).

Didn't really think of the budget - suppose if it is a throwaway bike - R10k to R20k

Any other advise? - different route to learn?

I've never had a bike before so we're in a similar position. I bought a BMW F650GS two weeks ago, I decided to get an adventure bike coz I want to do the longer trips. I also figured I will kill myself on a Superbike, specially if I bought it as my first.

I've done about 120 kilometers on the bike and so far so good except once when I hopped off a fairly high sidewalk and the bike slipped a bit. Luckily no damage :)

I don't feel it's neccesary to buy a small little piece of crap that you will have to resell in 6 months when you get bored of it.

Thanks TokoZAR.

I went to go play with the F800GS this morning.

I really like it - Still want to go play in the KTM stable though.

Anyone have one?

That's a very nice bike, if it wasnt too tall for me that is exactly what I would have bought.

Just short enough to ride the F650GS :) The F800 is someting like 10cm's higher, like just just too high for me.
