Anyone with a CANYON CNP-WF514N3A Looking to install DD-WRT?

This router uses the same hardware as the TP-Link WR1043ND, but with different firmware. This prevents the web-update to update it with TP-Link firmware (DD-WRT web-update firmware fools the router into thinking it is TP-LINK firmware). This means that currently there is no way to flash the router to any custom firmware out there, unless you desolder the flash and program it externally, which is what I have done with mine.

Now, the guys over at DD-WRT made a web-update rom for the Canyon, but need to test it on stock firmware. It will either work, or give an error message (I have already proven the DD-WRT firmware works on this router, we just need to verify that we can bypass the Canyon firmware check in the web-update gui) so there is very little risk in doing this.

This router is only available in the old USSR countries and SA, and since I can't speak Russian, I thought I would ask here.

Just dragged a CN-WF514 / N1D6420855 (made in China) out of the cupboard - is this the same beast?

Was installed at a client and replaced because it needed rebooting at least once a day so I'm prepared to brick it.

Chances of bricking is next to none. If you do brick it, I will unbrick it (if you can get it to me in Pretoria).

That said, it needs to be the -N3A version, the others have completely different hardware and is not compatible with DD-WRT.

I know this is an old feed, I have the router you are looking for, CNP-WF514N3A v1 with firmware 3.12.5 Build 101223 Rel.57776n.

I would love to try and update this firmware, as the Canyon version has never had an update for this model. These units function well, however the WiFi has got little buggy lately. If the TP-Link firmware can be installed on this unit, I am all game.:D

Wow, this is quite an old thread. You should head over to dd-wrt forums, there was a thread about this there.

Before the web update attempt, I had to desolder, program and resolder the flash on my router. That allowed me to load open wrt and the stock tplink fw and ddwrt. But I think the web update should work if you can find it.

Sadly, my canyon was taken by lightning, so I am not working on this anymore.
