Hey Friends,

I would like to bounce an idea off you.

Would a 64k and 128kb Uncapped account be of any value?

You will be able to do pretty much what you like with the bandwidth.

It would be shaped similar to SAIX accounts.

It will run off a VPN and include the base ADSL account.

Pricing Suggestions:

64k - R319
128k - R399

I know that it is hardly broadband, but would there be interested parties for such a service?
 
if p2p and all that works, then yes, but would it not be wise to wait a month or two to see if they pull their fingers out of their backsides regarding the new regulations!?
 
so let me get this right - i would only need the ADSL line, and a 128k Open Web VPN account to connect, woulnt have to get another ISP account ???
 
Yes, that is correct.

P2P and torrents are allowed, however shaped. During quiet times, they will run quite smoothly :)

I'd be sorely tempted to take up this offer if made available, assuming I can use my existing router.
 
What kind of dl speeds can we expect on these lines? Like how slow is 64k?? Only slightly faster than dialup?
 
64K +- 8kb/sec 128K +- 16kb/sec i.e. ISDN speeds. It's fine for browsing, gaming and downloading (if you have time to wait).

Edit: Well not too sure how good it is for gaming with Battlefield etc.
 
well i spose theoretically u could get nearly 40 gigs off a 128k account then which works out cheaper and better than allyoucaneat but i am not sure otherwise...

Openbrowse lets you browse internationally anyway, once u have used ur cap, and u get uncapped local. Not sure....
 
Yes, these accounts would work with your exisiting router, and would require NO setup fee whatsoever!

It will be month to month, with at least 10 days cancellation period before the end of the month required.

I am not a gamer, only interested in relatively good P2P speeds but with a price like that I'll be willing to wait it out. Sounds good...
 
yes, I'm keen for the 128, would have to see how it behaves, but yes, please, anything is better than rationing 150 mb per day... its so damn depressing.....

one question .... how good will it be for gaming?
 
Any possibility of a static IP on this? What upload speeds? 128k down + 128k up?
 
We are defenitely looking at a static IP option for a few rands extra per month. Upload will be 64 - 64 or 128 - 128.

It should work well for gaming as well.
 
OK this sounds pretty good just a few questions.

1. Will you still have say 3GB full speed adsl like the SAIX accounts?
2. If my calculations are correct this would be roughly a max of 39.5GB per month. Would it not be a better option to sell 30GB accounts at the same price? It would be the same amount of bandwidth?

I think I might wait till a full uncapped account like the old UUNet ones become available or some cheap 30GB accounts pop up again. I would pay R300-400 for 30GB.
 
how would this work? you are hardcapped @ 3gd, doesn't matter what VPN or proxy solution you throw at the problem, local is hardcapped at 3gb... period...

@MrBeep - Pls check out post #16

Do you think a capped 30GB account would be posible? if not why not? It would be less bandwitdh? Also a 30GB Full speed account so 384/512/1024.
