Can I get one of these in South Africa?

A PC? A Squeezebox? A cheap, normal hi-fi with a USB port to which you attach an external hard drive?

He doesn't know wtf that is and he won't buy it. I also doubt he'll want to go through all the effort of writing CD's to External.

God knows I aint gonna do it for him.
 
A number of manufacturers product similar hardware.

The unit is basically a media centre with:
1. A hard drive;
2. A CD/DVD player (plus software) for ripping your CD's to the hard drive; and
3. A display for selecting the tracks to play.

Any of the better hi-fi shops should be able to assist you.
