Saw Masterchef is being done in south Africa and got all excited. Installed my dish and unboxed my HD PVR I always use when on holiday and then had a look at the boquets. Was I shocked to figure out I have to get a premium subscription to watch masterchef. R590 and another think about R65 for PVR functionality. Holy cow. Someone make a wanted poster for DSTV. Think we just found the guys thats robbing the south african public. Can't even get M-net on its own either.

Bastards!!

I don't know whether to feel indifferent about DSTV or dislike them. On one hand the sports coverage (particularly football - Man United in HD is awesome) is world class for what we pay, possibly the very best in the world. And there's a fair amount of other content. On the other hand they make billions in profit, keep increasing prices and avoid adding channels like the plague.

Believe me I feel the same ,but after watching SABC crap for 3 months and having just installed my DSTV dish, HD PVR X2 again yesterday I can almost get over the R600 subs ALMOST.

Watching sports in HD rocks though....

Can't get any of the "good" channels on another bouquet - it's pretty much premium or bust. So for me, I work on the R20pm package + R65pm for PVR and upgrade to premium for one weekend once every month or so. On those weekends I record EVERYTHING on the PVR which then lasts me a decent while.

And then I get to stream most of the sport I want to watch via Supersport.com

I'd feel like such a douche doing that. Why not just get TopTV?

1. It has no sport.
2. It has no PVR either, so it won't even allow me to record the free to air programmes I enjoy watching but are broadcast at times that don't suit me.
3. It won't give me the option of upgrading to premium to watch a big game with some friends over a braai.

Can't you use Top TV with one of the Dreambox decoders that support PVR out of the box without needing to pay extra for it?
