Broadband connectivity in SA compared to other countries.

Hello,
I would like to start a discussion to compare the broadband connections in South-Africa compared to other countries.
I live in the Netherlands but visit KZN on regular base and see the internet development going on in your country during the years (since 1997).
Hope we can setup a serious discussion to exchange details and differnecs.
Just ask, and I'll try to answer.

Lets start with the obvious question..whats the average price you'd pay in total per month for adsl in holland? Also what speeds do u guys have over there?
 
OK, Here is what I got :
6000/768 ADSL connection, unlimited transfer, 200MB webspace, 5 email POP accounts (500MB space each).
When you subscribe now you get a free wireless modem and no installation costs.
It costs R446/month (238 for provider, 208 for Telcom)

The cheapest contract (1500/256) goes for R222/month (Free installation but only a wired router).
Contract last one year.
 
I'm think I'm going to be sick. Actually pbogaart we don't have broadband in this country - we're just kidding - in comparison to your specs (and your bells and whistles.)

Hey Peter! Nice of you to join us! Can't you point the Dutch jounalists to this site? Have them write some "nice" stories about the backwardness of this country... Call it: "Donker Zuid-Afrika, nog steeds een realiteit!" :(
 
Try Hong Kong: R130 for a 10Mbps connection. Not sure what the upload is. Met a business friend from our HK office and he was jokingly saying how me still talk abt kbps when they only talk abt Mbps...it's actually not that funny.. :(

IS has a 155Mbps international link...gives u the perpective on how we are so behind in broadband and government still think they helping the people...
 
When I was in China 2 years ago,I got 2Mb Uncapped adsl for about R60, now adsl has been upgraded to 4M, for about R45. Free installation,free modem, no rental,those prices include everything!

I hate stupid telkom!!
