Joburg traffic between sunninghill and sandton

Hey friends, I need your help, those that live in Joburg. How is the traffic between Sunninghill and Sandton (close to the gautrain station) during peak hours ? I'm considering moving there but my biggest pet hate is sitting in traffic.
 
Would you work in Sunninghill and go to Sandton - or vice versa?

If you're going into Sandton, I'm with skimread ...
 
That first stretch in Sunninghill, before you head under the highway and up Rivonia Road... Eish! You could head out past Eskom, via Woodmead or even along Bowling but... Eish! Heading west up Witkoppen is okay, 'till you have to turn left toward Sandton, then... Eish!

HECTIC !! yes, those were in capital letters.
 
Damn, is it that bad? I would be going from sunninghill to sandton. From the map I see two options: the most direct is south on Rivonia rd and the other is to take the N1 East, then M1 south, then the Grayston offramp. Any estimates on the time it'll take in traffic?
 
Jhb branch of my company is in Sunninghill. Not fun. Makes it almost worthwhile to say screw it I'll work another 2 hrs and then go home. At least that 2 hrs of work not staring at a cars bumper.
 
Lived in Sunninghill 04/05. Worked up the road in Sandton in an office block on the end of Sandton Blvd. The end farthest from the Highway - past the teazers, banks, 7/11 etc. Even in peak traffic @ 7AM it took me 10 mins to get to work. That was before Sunninghill became Hillbrow nr2 - a High density cluster*****. 2000 townhouse complexes and office blocks later, and I won't live there even if you paid me.

Try see if you can work flexi hours, like 7-4 or 9-6.
 
Sunnnghill as an are to live is great but oh my...you may as well live in Pretoria. Traffic is that bad.

I would love to move there because the price of houses isn't that expensive...but I refuse to wake up at 5 to be out of the house at 6.

I live in Houghton Estate. A bit more expensive but wherever you go, it's against traffic, except for Sandton which is 25 minutes in peak hour traffic.

Don't go to Sunninghill if you favour your sanity.
 
a mate lives in Sunninghill, works in woodmead. Takes him 20mins to get to work, straight up bowling. To get to sandton will take another 20mins. I cant see why its so bad, unless you use witkoppen.
 
Having travelled into sandton for 5 years every day I can say from experience it is a pain in the ass trying to get in and out of sandton during peak times. Longest part of my daily commute.
 
I live in Sunninghill and commute to JHB CBD daily ... I wouldn't do it if I wasn't on the bike. On days when I've had to use my car, I leave home at 6:30 and then it's not too bad

Having said that ... the Gautrain bus service covers just about the whole of sunninghill . I haven't tried it, but from what I've heard it's a definite option if you work anywhere near any of the stations all the way to Rosebank.

Saw them in operation every morning last week (and this morning)

[edit ... but you are right . Bus service reliability hasn't been the greatest since the first month Gautrain started operating]
