I just wonder why so much councillors die in South Africa :

Each month, between 5 to 10 councillors are reported dead, so new by-elections are planned.

Are the councillors chosen during general elections too old ? Are they ill ?

I don't remember seeing the same problem in Western Countries. It is rare that a councillor dies (and makes the news locally).

Does someone know what is the main factor of such a high mortality rate ?
 
It is about as stressful as being an astronaut. What with trying to elicit bribes, taking back-handers and juggling the books, the average life-span isn't great
 
It is a shock to the system going from dunce to dunce with a income, then that leads to a huge indulgence of drink and food that the system isn't used to. The get this huge income no matter the out-put and there is also an influx of back-handed deals, corruption and fraud - so basically apart from the stress of being caught out they die of boar-dome!
