The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein will on Tuesday rule on the Democratic Alliance’s bid to get the record of the decision to drop criminal charges against President Jacob Zuma.

The move was made in 2009 by then acting National Director of Public Prosecutions, Mokotedi Mpshe, before Zuma was elected as President.

The DA wanted a review of the decision to drop charges against Zuma.

It also wanted the NPA to produce the record of proceedings in respect to the move.

The NPA has refused to do so, questioning the DA’s standing on the matter.

In 2011 the High Court ruled in favour of the prosecuting authority, but granted the opposition party leave to appeal.

The DA now wants the Appeals Court to give it legal standing to obtain the records from the NPA.

Judgement has just been given in the DA's favour.

So if its given in the DA's favour I presume they will be reopening the case? I'm sure I just heard on the radio that the DA lost this round, or maybe it was with regards to the previous round?

Read the article (OP highlighted it). They wanted a record of the decision to drop the judges.

They should have done this BEFORE he was elected, but still, better late than never. Unfortunately I'm not too optimistic either.

My understanding is the DA have been given the right to see the records of the decision not to prosecute.

Whether they try and reopen the case I presume depends on what the records show.

Whats a bet that they will get a redacted version of the ROD initially and then have to launch a PAIA request for the non-redacted ones.. which will mysteriously be "lost"

Johannesburg - The Supreme Court of Appeal has ruled in favour of the DA's appeal that the records relating to the suspension of criminal charges against President Jacob Zuma in 2009 be released.

The NPA was ordered to submit an abridged version of the decision to drop corruption charges against Zuma.

Zuma was ordered to pay the DA's legal costs.

Not sure what ' abridged' means in this case.

As for costs we all know who will pay those.

Apparently the records will not include Zuma's protected submissions - but the reasons for not proceeding will make enough interesting reading.

Yep, thats my understanding as well.

Big question, what will be the 'abridged' version? what will be conveniently left out?

Someone, somewhere, has Zummy's back, nothing will happen...

it simply excludes certain docs in which JZ made allegations of conspiracy. No "relevant" doc can be excluded.

As I see it, the ANC have tried desperately to have this report kept away from the public - so there's definitely something they have to hide.

Is this the start of the 'House of Cards' comming down?

Cause I believe, that the ANC is of the mentality 'we've got each others backs, but if I go down, you go down'

Great victory for democracy, Zuma guilty or innocent - the public should have the right to clarity of that case.

Now can we get the 'secret tapes' released?

Not sure if this actually means anything. All the powers that is supposes to enforce 'rule of law' (NPA, Police, etc.) has been tainted by the cANCer.
