I'm still battling to find the best vehicle tracking option for a car that is valued at R330k.
I have looked at all of the major websites and they lock you in with contracts.

any suggestions on this?
 
The service is basically the same as a cell contract, you drive away with their product and haven't paid for it yet so yes there will be a contract.

I suggest work through a broker, find an insurer that doesn't require a tracking device for the value of your car ie Santam/Mutual and Federal, then discuss with the broker confirm discounts and install one and get a discount which will probably exceed your payment of the device. The normal discount is 15% of risk premium. Having one installed will also ensure you have no additional excess in event of your car being stolen/hijacked.

The reason there is a contract is because you get the tracking device for free. I know netstar at a stage offered to let you buy the unit once off then go on month to month.

I'd say give them a call and see if they still offer it.
 
I reseached this a while back and decided on SkyTrax (now bought by Tracker). You can track the vehicle from a website, get reports on performance, routes, speeds, etc. Some insurance companies actually pay the fees for you (mine doesn't).
 
thanks, i have made some calls, the 3 that I looked at are:
- C-Track
- Tracker
- Netstar

So far, C-Track has the best option with a 36 month contract which is R169-00 per month.
