Just received this email from openweb...

****************
Dear OpenWebber!

I am happy to introduce the 10 day Uncapped Local Account. For R99, you will get a 10 day UNCAPPED / UNLIMITED Local account for ALL speeds, from 192k to 1024k. The account will work for 10 days, from activation!

****************

So what do you guys think?

I am on 192k so i could do about 35gigs at a push, which is not too bad for 99 bucks...:)

Using my incredible maths skills which are not so sharp so early in the morning, this works out to uncapped local for R297/month.

*ponders...

Also sounds like a suitable stop-gap for ppl after they use up their cap.

Well you cant buy more than one at once but it is still a welcome option :)

I think this is such a cool option!

well done MrB!

Well you cant buy more than one at once but it is still a welcome option :)Why would you want to buy 2 at the same time?

Still, 10 days is a fairly finite period so you're not likely to mysteriously run out of bandwidth. Set yourself a google calendar (http://www.google.com/calendar) reminder :D

yeah, what i meant was that u cant buy 3 accounts at the start of the month and have uncapped local for R297 as i had previously suggested. What u can do is buy a normal 2 gig/30 account, rape it until you are capped and then topup with this 10 day account :)

i cant see you doing more than 30GB in 10 days, that is why i dont see the point of this over the other IS packages

Well it is R99 for starters...

And if u are on 1mbit and cant manage more than 30 gigs in 10 days then you are doing something way wrong...

cableguy
15-04-2006, 07:10 PM
Ermm...lol....I can do like 40GB's in 10 days, if not more!!

And for R99!! That is the cheapest I have seen yet!!!

The latest from Openweb:

***********************

Dear Friends,

I hope you had a GREAT Easter Sunday!

We will be changing the structure of our OpenWeb packages from 1 May.

Changes are as follows:

1. We will no longer sell / support / provide the 192k - 25GB - R189 p/m accounts.

2. Local Only 30GB ADSL accounts will unfortunately fall away as well.

3. However, we have introduced our brand new 10day Local Uncapped Accounts that will cost R99.

4. To accompany these accounts, as an add-on, you can purchase a 10 day Uncapped 128k OpenBrowse package for only R39.

If you are currently on our R189 package, kindly contact me on: admin@openweb.co.za and I will be more than happy to help you decide which package you would like to take from 1 May onwards.

I would like to thank you for your loyal support, as we, together, make OpenWeb the best!

*************************

What do you guys think??

Unfortunately works out at more than R400 for an account that was less than R200 just a few days ago, but that is not so much openweb fault as it is IS's.

My suggestion would be to implement some kind of account that combines all these packages. I am not keen to have to change account details every ten days, nor go to the bank every ten days to pay for them.

I just transfer the cash using internet banking, so it is really easy for me.

we should ask mrbeep if we can buy the account via debit order

I see. I dont really trust internet banking enough just yet, hence the constant need to trapse to the bank to make payments :p

Sheesh! I've been using internet banking with Nedbank for over a year now. Recently opened an FNB account and have been making use of their internet banking. Not only for account payments, but for transfers between my accounts: Savings <-> Credit Card <-> Cheque Account

I've yet to have one problem with either bank *touch wood*. It's been a breeze and something you should seriously try out. You can save a lot on bank charges aswell (FNB that is).

Cool man. I'll bear that in mind. My best mate's folks also swear by it. I am just loathed to give away any kind of personal details over the net, especially banking ones!

Also , if you can get a 2gig/30+ account with openbrowse, which lasts a whole month, for R229, then is this not a better option than R138 for ten days of uncapped and ten days of 128k openbrowse??

cableguy

I will finish those 30GB's in like 10 days, then I am back at square one!

I prefer local uncapped.

It helps if you understand the SSL architecture. Internet Banking is safer then walking into a bank. Each time someone logs onto an banking site, a secure session is created. The keys involved with this session are only valid for the duration of the session. The last time I saw any estimates, they had a Cray computer breaking this session in about a week. By the time they have cracked the session, you have logged in and out another 10 times.

Cheers

Abe

So is this R99/10 days no matter what speed you have? Also p2p and torrents and stuff work with this account?

I see. Well i spose we all have different needs... How much do u think you will be able to pull in those 10 days using the uncapped account??

Also ATM nobody has been capped on 30gigs. Most users have got to around 50gig without being capped. I am around 40 and havent been capped yet...

Dunno how strict it will be next month though...

Try FNB - they have a included service called inContact whereby you're notified via sms or email of any activity wrt your account.

if my 192K/2 Gig account is capped it means that i will need the 10days unlimtied local PLUS R39 for another openbrowse according to Mr Beep. so that mean it actually costs R138

MrBEEp, I see you guys utilize AYCE accounts, obviously to reduce your costs! Should AYCE pick up trouble with the court case would this affect pricing on all your latest products!

Just to add to this, SSL only protects your connection to the bank, not your computer so if some one has any keylogging on your computer then they will capture everything you have been typing. So make sure there are no trojans, viruses, spyware, adware, etc etc etc on your computer. To be honest I dont even trust things like google toolbars and stuff like that as you really dont know what they get up to.
