Cops run out of fuel in hot pursuit

It was really in the heat of the chase .... :/
 
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said members were encouraged to be prepared for any eventuality, but he added that the officers could not be accused of having failed in their duty in this case.

Mdunge said the officers deserved praise for reacting quickly to the robbery complaint.

“If they first added fuel they would have missed the suspect anyway,” he said.

Questions to ask:
1) Was the tank full at start of shift? If not, did they fill the tank? If not, Why?
2) How busy were they before they received this complaint?

When I worked in the EMS, running out of fuel was grounds for an investigation by management.
 
Had to happen sooner or later.
I'm sure it is not the first time in the world this has happened.
Cars don't stay magically FULL of petrol, and it would be a serious pain to try and keep it full all the time.
 
I know our sector manager mentioned once when he went on patrol with the bmw, he would finish a tank of fuel in one or two days... it's far from difficult to run out of fuel if you turn up the pressure on the accelerator.
 
That's just bad luck really. The cops must have been swearing when they realised they were out of fuel.
 
The smallholding is about 13km outside Empangeni, but they had to drive about 35km to get to the place where Wait saw the suspect.

I wouldn't really call being 35km away in hot pursuit.
 
I think the police should have a minimum limit of fuel they can have in the car.. let's say a quarter of a tank. As soon as they reach that they should have to fill up as a rule.

Although obviously there's absolutely no way you could enforce that at-all.
 
I didn't know that NFS:HP had fuel dynamics let alone South African levels.
