What are news servers/ newsgroups?

Hi,

I recently signed up for an account at www.nzbsa.co.za

I wanted to download something and it gave me a nzb file. I tried opening it in utorrent, didnt work. I then heard you must download grabit, so i got that, now that i installed it, it is asking me for a usenet server host name.

How do I aquire a usenet server host name? What must I do? I have a TelkomInternet account.

News server applies to your ISP's news server - for Telkom it's news.saix.net and Port:119

That should work. Note that it shouls only work off peak hours, usually after 7 at night to around 7 in the morning. This has great variation though.

I don't know much about grabit but there should be a setting somewhere for a port number.
Go into settings and look under server options or something like that.

Under "my Grabit" right click on your News Server and select "server properties"

also can you ping news.saix.net?

Do you get any error codes?

I ping'd news.saix.net using my TelkomInternet account, I got "request timed out" 4 times, and 100% packet loss.

I also tried pinging news.telkomsa.net (that was the one that was written on account details page) and i got the same result.

Depends some Servers do allow you to ping

Used to use Alt.binz and every now and then I would get rss lockups. With sabnzb and now sickbeard, hell no thanks to other progs.

Still not a fan of the web interface, on my 384k line ik usually end up sitting and waiting for downloads to finish so I have don't mind adding episodes

You do realise you host the website locally on your own machine right?

I think he may be referring to the actual ep download stalling at 99%. I get this sometimes with really old items in sabnzb.
I used to use Alt.Binz, but it kept failing to unpack and repair properly, and sometimes randomly froze.
