Companies now responsible of online harassment

i'm sick of racism, and i'm sure most people are.... so why do some people just carry on and on and on pointing it out ?? "oh he called me black" like duhh... i dont sue people for calling me a male, of a blond, or a redhead or whatever else.

get a life and leave this crap alone!!

It becomes a problem if its hate speech or encitement too violence. Calling someone a black is fine.

You must remember it is not a crime too be racist, it's a crime to use hate speech.

give it a rest people, what happened to "Sticks & stones will break my bones, but words can never harm me."
that should be more pertinent today than ever before

Say that to some members on this forum! LoL! Some make you out a racist if you talk about the "colours of the rainbow" in the same post as nation!. Let wait and see!

This might not look like it, but this has the makings of a police state and government endorced thought control. Some old fogey in a judges chambers somewhere is going overboard and not thinking of the repurcussions this will have in the workplace. Networks will get restricted, emails scanned SS style. The list is endless and it is already happening. Email should be considered postage and whatever anybody says in it is their business. Surely I cannot go and give Ivy a "klap" because Frikkie down the road said I am a "poepol" in a letter he wrote me and mailed to me via the SA postal service.

I thought we were trying to undo it?!!?
Yeah I know that is what I believed and hoped but too many small cracks is appearing that makes me wonder! Exactly as you stated. Total control, equal sharing , narrow the gap between rich and poor (like communism ideal, but never worked)etc, etc, etc!

The hate speech laws should be struck off the books. They're a travesty and affront to free speech. They can and are regularly used to suppress open speech.

Don't like what someone says? Then argue against them, insult them if you want, but otherwise shut up.

it is often words that incite people to take undesirable action - there is a certain power in words that should not be underestimated.

Tough. It is still censorship and we're better off with people speaking out.

As the original poster said, sticks and stones. People need to grow up a little (unfortunately far too many people seem more than happy to let their government treat them like little children).

Even claims of incitement to violence are deliberately vague, to allow suppression on a whim. What is incitement to violence? If I give a speech where I say the government is corrupt and should be removed? Do I actually have to tell people to go out now and begin attacking? What if I just say it is about time we removed our government?

This story is very vague. Was it shown that the harassment was occurring openly and that the employer was made aware, but that nothing was done. Employers have an interest in promoting a co-operative environment so they should get involved if they are aware of something like this. If it was genuinely harassment and not a crying little tattle-tale who was hurt by the nasty joke. Bad joke.

Harassment is also different to those cases where companies have fired people for sending out rough jokes. That was just childish nonsense, pandering to pathetic people who need to stop acting like babies.

tasteless jokes, harmful text and even adult video clips

Tasteless jokes are hilarious.

Harmful text? Is it harmful if used externally? What about if it falls on my toe.

Even adult video clips? I'm shocked.

It's got nothing to do with communism. It is simple totalitarianism, and it is on the rise all over the world. Do gooders and nannies interferring, telling us what to do, protecting us from ourselves.

Some people simple don't want freedom. What they really want is to feel safe, like children hiding behind mommie's apron. We should incorporate a nice police state somewhere and anytime someone says they think safety is worth giving up some freedom we ship them right off to this nice police state, where the friendly government has cameras everywhere, including in your home, and they make sure no-one does anything naughty.

Corporates should have measures in place to protect them selfs and their employees from distastefull mail and web sites. They should also enforce their IT policies more closely.

A disclaimer attached to e-mail. Block images and media files. Filter web sites for business purposes's only. Policies that are signed by the employee.

If they fail to do this, ya well take your straps.
