RIM delays financial analysis till after BlackBerry 10 launch

After seeing BB10 in action, I can see why they're doing this, OS7 is a huge disappointment compared to it... Can't wait for September :P

Os10 looks fantastic indeed,i'm pretty excited as it seems we'll have another worthy competitor to the android/ios duo.

I bet RIM will shut the doomsayers up once os10 is up and running.

I take it you have seen their next handset and OS in action for you to make such calls.

Or are you under the impression that there is like only 500 people in the world still using blackberries ?

indonesia and india too....remember these are all emerging markets so yeah sure rim might be screwed in the short term but if they get their long term strategy right they are still a major force in the mobile world.I really don't know why many people are writing them off after seeing os10?!

Rim is NOT nokia and they seem to know when they need an OS update before they loose too much momentum and the momentum right now is slowly leveling out,with os10 it will definitely begin to move in their favor again.
 
I dont buy into hype, and that's all this is.

numbers speak for themselves. a 80% share price drop in 12 months is not the product of a company that is doing well. on an investor level, its a whole different discussion. even worse actually.

the projected growth/outlook for the 6 months hardly looks promising either.

so you can get all excited about OS10, but the fact that is while RIM are struggling iOS/Droid are soaring ahead. Instills real investor confidence doesnt it lol

Like I said above buddy,"in the short term RIM is pretty much screwed" but in the long term they have alot to offer the market yet....if they do it right it may just be the best investment you can make right now as their share price is incredibly low and judging from os10 its only going to pick up from here.

Remember the stale futureless company Apple once was before Steve Jobs got on the scene ?

What you are forgetting to say is that if RIM manage to produce a killer smartphone, they can most certainly become a worthy competitor again. We all know what happens when there is no real competition...
 
you both have good points... but I still have my reservations though

Wont be anything to chat about after tomorrow night,we all already know their current figures are going to be pathetic nobody is arguing about that here buddy...

Lets talk six months AFTER OS10 is launched then we'll know the true worth of RIM.
 
Agreed, competition is good. Talking about stale, RIM's new CEO epitomizes it. :p

They need apps, apps, apps. BIS as a value proposition won't be sustainable on the long term with data prices coming down, coupled with the speed advantage of normal data packages.

Can the MXIT generation (BBM) and developing countries alone keep RIM afloat? Maybe, I don't know.

The future of smart phones is apps, without it you will struggle to survive.

this is what Im saying. investor/market confidence is zero, because of this. Its not a model going forward that will keep them in front with the rest of the boys. Im talking internationally here, forget SA for a moment.

this is exactly the reason why South Africa is booming with BB's.... BIS. Ask anyone why they getting a blackberry and you gonna hear BIS. They dont care if its an average/crap device.

But as data prices come down, and people hook up to WLAN's that are everywhere, essentially bypassing the benefit of slow as hell BIS...

well then they will get a new phone ;)

South Africa are just behind....

They have apps, not nearly as many as Apple and Android, but the groundwork has already been done and the platform is there. Obviously they are putting heavy focus on apps and open standards already for their next OS. If the people upgrading their BB's next year have the option of a blackberry device on with the same capabilities and features that any android/Iphone has, it changes things a little.

BTW I'm no fan of BB myself, but I don't think a company like RIM is just going to whimper away. Even though I'm not a fan, I am actually expecting something very impressive from their next line up.

I hope so, I really do.

They've had years to create a decent app offering, and have failed to do so to date. I've had a BB, the AppWorld is total ****.

Releasing a decent hardware specced phone with a good OS is not suddenly going to make you an Android/iPhone competitor.

As I said, I hope RIM turns it around...but in this game it is easy to whimper away if you stayed behind the curve for too long. The "a company like RIM" argument doesn't hold water. The corporate graveyard is filled with "we thought we were too big to fail" corpses. :)

Yet a stable, responsive and customizable OS paired with enough processing power is a critical element, and at the moment I feel BB doesn't even have that. Saying that though, I just saw a YT clip of a BB 9850, and it's actually showing promising signs.

Time will tell. If they don't pull it off this time round things are gonna start looking really grim. I get the feeling they hurt their own brand a lot, by not adapting maybe ?
 
Unless BB10 is amazing and the hardware it's on is up to par with latest android offerings, it's not gonna turn around their fortunes. Launching a new OS means you are at least about a year behind others (app wise) and you will have a small install base, if there aren't people raving about your device it's not going to sell. Playbook is an example.

It looks to be amazing from the videos i've seen and rim claim that they are waiting for better chips so heres hoping that the hardware will be top notch.Also they wont exactly be a year behind with apps because apparently os10 is going to support android apps(Thats right ANDROID!lol they'll have a good few thousand compatible from the start).

The only thing they need to get right to make it a success is design of the actual phones(their current all touch devices look sh*t) and marketing.

And no playbook is not an example because it was a half baked rushed product with the wrong screen size,the market wants 10 inch tablets not 7.0 inch.If the playbook was a 10 inch device and launched with a proper os at a competitive price it would have been a success,I myself would have bought one.

The playbook has a dual core chipset so it also looks promising that OS10 wont be stuck in the WP7 boat when it comes to chipset compatibility.
