You will have to pull finger, remember the Chinese “DO IT CHOP CHOP” :D

Hmmmmmmm

1st Japanese car was a joke

1st korean car was a joke too

1st Chinese car will most likely be a joke (at least in some way )

BUT the second one will start to munch the market share.

History lessons ;)

But the consumers can not wait utill next year, we need cheaper cars in 2006

The Chinese simply copied or stole the designs from their so called joint venture partners i.e GM and VW in China and told them to take a hike and made their own domestic cars.

Recently some Chinese company tried to sell their cheap Jeep clone in Europe and it was the only car to not get any NCAP safety star so badly copied and assembled it was.

It was called the "Land Wind" ... basically a death trap.

It took the Koreans about 20 years to make their first decent cars that could compete with the best on the world market with technical assistance from Ford and Mitsubishi.

The Chinese and Indians are still rank amateurs at the car making game ... they only advantage they have is that they sell cheap and cheerfull crap ... just look at a TATA TECOLINE bakkie.

I think that McCarthy Motors will see to it that its not crap that gets sold to the public...dont you think?

I don't know how you can add more 'choice' to the SA motor industry.. there are something over 150 different car models to choose from, go figure.

i doubt some unkown chinese car company is going to make any serious impact on the local market. look at the smart car as an example.

The Smart Roadster and 4Four recently got canned overseas because of poor sales ... rather pity the poor saps who bought them with bugger all future resale value just all those MG Rover owners :).

"These vehicles will be imported from reputable manufacturers who are using well-proven technology"

Probably cars uses Japanese engine, and gearbox I think

But We want lower price

most South African dont realise ,how expensive cars are in SA.

travel overseas and equip yourself with a calculator

you soon will find out :(

Reason for Smart to fail was simple: too bloody expensive for too little car! :p

It is all to do with branding my dear fellow.

Overseas they are cheap and not very well designed city cars peddled by the likes of supermarkets like Tesco and car supermart websites by the dozen but in uber snobland of South Africa you have to visit your local Merc dealer with his rather large franchising costs and huge dealership to get one.

So to make you feel special and remind you that you are not driving a cheap a$$ Chev Spark, Daewoo Matiz or Kia Picanto like your much wiser neighbour they make your pay much more and simply give a bottle of bubbly and a Merc Keyfob to make you feel better :).

Another reason why the Smart failed was because it is a really bad car to drive. The automic gearbox is a joke, took something like 2-3 secs to change gears, the pull is non-existent, suspension for SA driving can give you a hernia, and something that small just makes you feel insignificant.

hwmmm

somehow i think it will be a while befowe i invest in a chinese motowcaw.
even now the kowean caws on our woads awe a load of cwap.
