SNO’s ADSL may be here sooner than expected

Has Icasa granted the SNOT access to TELKOM exchanges? how they gonna get that last mile?
as far as i know there is no agreement at this time for that.

Can this mean they are going to offer dialup access or that other solution based on CDMA?


Well enough with the bashing.
It seems like a good little heads up from an insider but unfortunately the big wigs aren't commiting and until they firmly state that their intentions TELKOM will sit comfortably and just watch itself making money.

i am hoping though they read comments on this site and take it very serious not to promise anything they dont deliver when they promised it. otherwise it will just be another telkom. time will tell.
 
So it comfirms then, their recent price reductions(Telkom) is pre-emptive to LLU and the delay in adsl is then strictly due to delay from DoC. Interesting.. I wonder how this will impact on SAIX and IS if SNO has their own source of international bandwth also if they cheaper whether Telkom will allow competition on an ISP/provider lvl over ADSL, ie use Telkom adsl line but use a SNO isp
 
To me it doesn't really matter if they are going to offer cheaper adsl or not. I for one, and I do think there are a lot of people feeling the same, will move to SNO out of principle. After being shafted by Telsuck time and time again... Yeah so SNO may be/will be shafting us too. At least you get to choose who does it it then. Not a very big choice, but it's a start.
 
Well, maybe we should just wait and see what happens. If it is true, and they get it right to launch their ADSL by the end of 2006 I'm sure that they will have a great future in SA.

Maybe they will have a few attractive launch specials for us.;)
 
Sooner than expected?? I dont think so. Since their website appeared they stated they wanted to roll out broadband services in Q4 2006 unless my memory fails me now. How is this latest news then 'sooner than expected'?

I also got one of those emails from SNOT on the 7th Feb and in it it says:"...Our ADSL services are currently planned to be launched during the fourth
quarter of 2006."
 
I agree with IC, as consumers we are probaly the last people to recieve any type of attention from snot, they will be going after the bigger business first - thats where all the money is isn't it? (Cos it damn sure it isn't in my pocket after being a Telkom customer!!)

I think it will depend on how many businesses have signed Telkom contracts. SNOT might not have a choice but to go after the residential market.
 
Krycor that is what is was thinking , use telkom adsl line but make sno your isp , that way when telkom have to drop their line rental preices , they will have to make a plan with their isp packages aswell .

Well, it does make sense to start in the metropolitan areas first. Using this logic, JHB and Pretoria will be first on the list with Cape Town, Nelspruit and the rest to follow. In fact, if they started where the money is, Pretoria East would be first on the list, then Nelspruit and the rest to follow.

Their strategy makes perfect sense bwana. :) I was upset about their wireless plans, but the DSL moves made me feel better. I doubt they will be running by the end of this year though.

Well allow me to be unimpressed until they knock on my door asking if I want to switch. They could cover a city like PE wirelessly in a matter of weeks if they chose to.
 
South Africa being the Land of Empty Promises, the rule of the thumb seems to be that when someones says something its much more likely not to happen than it is. So using this principle and IBIWISI, one can only be doubtful about the chances of getting SNODSL anytime in 2006.
 
u guys have really been hard done by guavamint and telscum (havent we all), but ur forgetting one thing: guavamint != snot != telscum.
i seriously doubt that snot would come into this market with the same strategy that telscum have ie lying, cheating, empty promises, rediculously high prices etc...
i for one believe that snot is the beginning of really great things for us. just becoz my whole family lies like crap, doesnt mean that i'm a liar as well, catch my drift? ;)
 
I dunno....is the fact that gvnmt owns similar shares in both companies a bad thing? If it only had shares in one then it might be inclined to be biased in legislation etc. Gvnt now doesnt (shouldnt) really care either way now which hopefully will result in a level playing field and competitive practices.
