Getting? In my experience its never been open. The hoops I had to jump through to get permanent residency were ridiculous.

You'll find it's the same everywhere not just here. It took me 5 months to get a bank account in the UK. Was staying in a house share, so no bills or lease agreement etc to prove where I stayed. They wouldn't even allow my employers to vouch for me, eventually had to get one of the bills changed into my name and then had to wait 2 months, because they needed to see payment history as well.

Because a lot of these peeps are illegal or just want to get a gateway to EU or USA after a while, also crime and fraud is sky-rocketing with Nigerians and some other Intarnational scam groups heavilly involved. They learned by now our policing became useless and the low paid officials is easilly bribed with a few Greenbacks! Look at the Airport heist as a typical example. We will fast become the smugling gateway for Africa at this trend. Infrastructure + high volumes + slack officials = crime and smugling!

Agreed. South Africa is only closed to foreigners who could actaully bring in something good to the country. My best mates father is a german dentist and he was not allowed to practice in this country.

Meanwhile ask any car guard/hawker/thief/criminal( and yes i do pair them all together) just how easy it was for them to enter the country illegally and steal south african's jobs.

I agree, keep the Europeans out of South Africa, who needs them, we are capable of f#cking everything up with the help of our black brethren from zim/Nigeria /Ghana and so on and, thank you very much. We don’t need the “pale faces” to come here with their knowledge and expertise, we have the know-how, so be gone with you, you pale skin devils.
I AM A PATRIOT. :D :D

Yeah, for other Africans it's easy to get in but strangely not people of European descent (A few votes to the DA can hardly threaten the ANC). Probably they want to save the jobs for their (unqualified) Aunt Maplele rather than giving it to a skilled person.

Well I was sitting in a short-listing meeting today and was told flat out that we weren't considering Zimbabweans because of the effort it takes to get work-permit and everything else organised.
