Hi guys and gals,

I am stuck here with a guys machine and I really don't know what is giong on here(not that I am a technician of anykind lol). He uses normal 56k Telkom sa dial-up, now the problem is, he connects to the internet fine but the browser don't want to browse (This page cannot be displayed comes up) and outlook doesn't want to download mail.

Now I have used this user account on the guys laptop and the same thing happens and the laptop has never been connected to the net before.

So please any ideas or the fix would be apreciated.

Thanks

Jah

see if you can ping a server, say pop3.telkomsa.co.za
if you get no reply try ping the Ip address 196.25.211.150
if you get a reply then its DNS related, try manually setting DNS servers.

Agree with Jah's advice.

Use the following manual DNS addresses under TCP/IP properties of the dial-up connection:
Primary DNS - 196.43.1.14
Secondary DNS 196.43.1.11.

Their might also be a problem with the SAIX network and DNS servers.

if its not dns, check if theres a firewall, and if so disable it.
Check modem drivers, try reinstall.
phone isp and see if there are any problems on network.
If its windows 98/me reinstall tcp/ip
try different numbers, theres a list of saix numbers somewhere on this forum.

Also just come back from a friend who has dial-up
Has been having intermittant results doimng dialup for mail dowmnloads. Sometimes works, the not.

Modem dials but does not train. A test to a private RAS Server worked, so not Modem Problem.

Telkom say 0860007249 is problematic, and undergoing an upgrade.
I would suggest also consider dialup network issues.

Try deleting the dailup connection completely and recreating it. If Windows 98, reinstall the tcp/ip protocol (need 98 CD, though). If you're using the SAIX accelerator, uninstall it. It gives problems with emails for some reason. If this doesn't work, let us know... =)
