It was time for politicians and security-force officers to face the music for their role in apartheid-era human rights violations, a Cape Town conference heard on Thursday.
Former Truth and Reconciliation Commission member said she would like to see "those who created this milieu", and not the foot-soldiers, brought to book.

Well it will surely begin. Yes for those that really commited crimes! But then again as we can see from comments on this forum, if you were eligible voter at the time you will also be blamed and this will surely like all other things be abused to the limits. They will make a Hussein out of every white general or politician at the end of the day! Why can't these morons learn from Madiba! and let us continue with building this nation!

Hulle gaan hulle gatte sien as hulle die ou leiers will tronk toe sleep. Part of the deal between the leaders of old and the new leaders was no prosecution.
 
It is only her opinion and she is entitled to it.

Fortunately the ANC has no interest in regurgitating the whole TRC process out again ... it is done ... there are enough problems of the living to deal with in this country thank you very much.

One of my whitey friends is ex-SAP and he used to work at Vlakplaas (eek).

I never asked him what he did there and I don't want to know the details but I am sure he probably did the same sort of crap as Dirk Coetzee and some others did.

He is not evil person but did what he probably thought was the right thing at time (that volk and vaderland thing) but whatever wrong he committed is between him and God to sort out.

I really don't see why we need to go through this again ... sure we need to know the stories and wrongs committed to prevent us from ever going through the same crap again and also try and give some sort of "justice" and sense of "closure" to the victims.

The TRC process was a copout of sort and not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but then the political settlement carried a cost which meant that certain things was swept under the carpet for the sake of it.

Enough rambling from me ... we should move on.

Do you also think that Nuremberg and the current Saddam trial are unncessesary, that it's between the perpetrators and God and who do you speak for when you say "WE should move on"?

If they are going to prosecute old leaders they should also prosecute the whole ANC for their role in apartheid blowing up busses,cars,restaurants etc.

But Im also gonne agree with tibby its a waste of time and money why dig up past wounds everyday ?

The present government was supposed to make retribution - to this date they haven't (do they care about anything except their fat comfortable bank balances.) If there is to be an accounting - of the people that didn't come forward at the TRC then this accounting should be across the board - all south africans of all colours. I can think of some black politicos that should be up for war crimes but nobody mentions them.

As if the current GVT is not adept in placing the new racist laws sublimed as Non "Previous disadvantaged" whites in law and the constitution to create the downfall of the whites as well as hiding the fraud as per Zuma. if it was not for a few honest whistleblowers PPL these would never have been caught. In some Municipality's the whole management was corrupt and were place under supervision!

Is there any info how many White folk already left this country? Good about the documentation that went astray. Mismanagement again! or do they still blame the previous regime for it! poor PW, was in need of toilet paper!
 
cant the government just try and move forward its starting to become a really lame excuse blaming everything on apartheid instead of trying to fix it.

If this "government" if I can call them a government spent half the time fixing the country as they do with blaming everything on apartheid we would have had reached a 6 % growth a long time ago but instead this "government" changes city/town/airport/street names get revenge on apartheid blame everything on apartheid and in a few years we will look just like the rest of africa or maybe worse because other african countries are actually developing instead of blaming all on the past excluding zimbabwe

Do you really think that it was only Saddam and his deck of cards and the leadership of the Nazi Party that were alone responsible for the persecution of the war and the holocaust ???.

These trails are there to satisfy our "bloodlust" and nothing more.

Also the guilt is far more the work than a few misguided individuals as these trails would want to blame but rather an entire societies who supported a state and it's apparatus who conducted genocide and war on others i.e the German People and the Sunni's of Iraq.
