Telkom limbers up to jump digital divide and cross borders into Africa

What the hell are they doing.
Come and install my DSL first you mullets. Maybe if you did your job properly in South Africa and didn't rip off so many of your own people so badly you wouldn't have to go looking for business in other countries.

Why should the poor be interested in a Telkom landline?

They can have a cellphone to receive calls for (almost) no monthly fees.

It simply makes sense for the poor not to have a Telkom landline.
 
They see they are reaching the final kicks of their corporate abuse of the consumer and see they could maybe restart their business model in Africa where they do not know them yet! Hopefully Nigeria seemed to have realised the TELKOM ways!

Shows the stupidity of this incumbent! They could have only blocked the outgoing calls and then would have retained a high percentage (50%?) of the
lost revenue by PPL still dialling to these 1 million disconnected phones!
 
I just hope that when they do bugger off into deepest darkest Africa to rip those folks off, they take Lulu Letlape with them on a permanent basis.

If there ever was a telecoms revolution in this country my bet is she would be one of the first ones put up against the wall with an offer of a blindfold and a last wish, figuratively speaking of course.

Because somehow telkom has managed to turn such a basic service as owning a telephone into an elitist niche service. Being niche means there will always be people dumb enough to pay for it.

Telkom fails dismally at one of its mandates (bringing telecom to the masses) so just moves on to bilk the rest of Africa? This the government's failure - they need to get out of telecommunications and open up the market entirely - their Telkom experiment has only cost the economy, but the free market will act "for the people" that they and Telkom have let down. Oh, and Papi should shove his triple-play up his arse... GIVE US INEXPENSIVE BROADBAND FIRST, you clueless git.
 
I think they got it slightly wrong.. Yes people of africa want and need telecoms BUT I don't think they will be as forgiving as SA people wrt Telkom pricing. Generally SA people seem to be more relaxed and less hostile to pricing unlike north where they won't get gov support against its own people.

Unless Telkom makes them shareholders. It's worked so well for them here to have government in their pockets.
 
It looks more and more like Telkom only wants a niche market with their triple-pay products. They will NEVER lower their prices. This is why they don't roll out their ADSL services quickly... they only want a select few stupid customers who will pay thousands a month for this service.

This is also the reason they're letting more and more employees go. They KNOW their days as a major player in SA is almost finished. This is why they're looking at countries where there is no competition, as Telkom will never survive in a competitive market.

I sincerely hope the SNO takes note of this and provide us with cheap, no-frills broadband.

Telkom can really shove their triple-pay :mad:
Given the choice of Dstv or IPTV who will people go for?

Lower your prices and people would be taking up your landlines like u have never seen, but then again because u have stuffed us around for too long maybe not.

I do not know why they don't install landlines for free, enabling the whole country to have a phone, and they can make the money from all the calls that are made, which would be allot more money in the long run, but then again this is Telkom we are talking about.
 
Perhaps but the point i was making it seems SA people just take things without a fight but in other countries the impression you get is that they won't be suckered into it lying down. Dunno why we are so laxed though, could be the views we get here.
