SABC wants to wean itself off revenue from adverts

Yeah I'm sure they're going to wean themselves of 85% of their revenue and still be able to keep the same level of service and programming.

Granted I actually think that the SABC should be ad free because it is supposedly a 'public broadcaster' which gets license fees (whether you watch SABC or not) and money from government. But then they need to start producing BBC quality programming and news.
 
they do not want to be in the mess the US is currently in where people do not watch ads!

i doubt if SA has enough PVR's to justify the move.

Most people in the US still watch the ads or channel surf through them.

The main difference is that in the states the license fee is paid by the broadcaster and not the viewer. Makes more sense to me but then again there the channels arent state owned propaganda machines.
