Telkom currently offers the CallCatcher feature which provides an alternative to standalone products such as Call Answer, IdentiCall and WaitingCall. The CallCatcher option bundles these three value added services in a single option.

Existing and new Telkom Closer customers will receive CallCatcher as part of their package

So I should be getting Caller ID on my current closer contract?

Sheesh.....they were charging people for getting a voicemail facility :(

The way this influences my life, the headline should be "Telkom adds more bloat to ADSL lines".

But really, other than businesses, old people, and those without mobile reception, who still uses a landline? ;)

Normal phonelines?... really?

The only reason I have one is for ADSL, and most of the ppl I know are the same.

How will this affect your DSLAM?

It won't. I was trying to say that the voice portion of my landline is irrelevant to me and many others (so I jokingly referred to the voice and adsl lines I "rent" from Telkom as my ADSL line), and that any services add to this facility is useless to me i.e. bloat.

Telkom announced today (3 April 2012) that a number of its value added services are now offered free of charge to postpaid voice customers.

That should read 'for it's closer' customers. The majority of postpaid voice customers still have to pay for the add on. This is just another attempt to stop the collapsing arpu by migrating people to Closer packages.

I will NEVER pay for the ability to see who is calling me. That is in non way a genuine 'value added service' - it is simply part of basic telephony.

And why pay an R80 bolt on for calls! We all know a call to Vodacom or MTN costs Telkom 56c termination, so they are still more than doubling their costs!

damn i should actually switch to closer 1. much more value to be had there.

Nice, these plans slowly move us to a fixed monthly rental with free on-net calls. Slowly but surely.

R80 for 60 minutes is a Ripoff!!! (At least on Closer Plan 3)

This is a complete Ripoff if you think about it, even if it is for mobile calls.

R80.00 for 60 Minutes = R1.33 per minute.

On my Closer Plan 3, I pay R1.40 per Minute for Mobile (Including VAT) During peak hours,
so that's a whopping 7c per minute saving! :wtf:

The huge "snag" comes in when you consider that Off-Peak mobile calls only cost me R1.14
per minute inc VAT, so I'd be losing 19c for every minute.

On Top of all this, with Closer Plan 3, Mobile calls are billed per second, instead of per minute.

The people who want to have a conversation with a good quality connection which does not require repeating everything and shouting.

"60 FREE surfing minutes during Callmore time"

LMAO
