South Africa has the worst broadband penetration in a sample of 30 countries, according to a recent broadband penetration survey.

Recently released statistics from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reveal that the number of broadband subscriptions throughout the OECD continued to increase in 2005 from 136m in June 2005 to 158m by December 2005.

Nice one rpm

Its all a government induced f@ck up of epic proportions and they clearly don't have the savvy to notice it, yet alone fix it.

Cultures, cannot get past old cultures, 12 years in the making! by the time something positive happens I won't need broadband anymore, a lifeline will be all I need!

Maybe I am using the wrong word here, but if the mindset about the way the ANC run this country and bussiness as a whole does not change we will never make it!

Hopefully the SNO will help this. They will have to sign up customers at a rapid rate to grab a foothold in the SA broadband market. Otherwise they will have to resign themselvs to Telkom almost totally controlling the broadband market. Which I doubt they want

But it seems Voda is doing well. I think they might well win the broadband war

As long as telkom is a 50% owner any war will be orchestrated. Telkom gets their share of the profits and they supply vodacom with their bandwidth.

bwana : I don mind Telkom making (alot) of money from Voda. As long as Voda keeps delivering

All vodacom delivers to me are bills higher than my telkom bill. Until that changes there not a viable alternative.

I dont subscribe to the internationally competitive mentality especially when they're not. If they're directly competing with telkom (just look at their faster than ADSL ads) then their prices should be too.

If vodacom wants to impress me they can lower their data prices to adsl levels and reduce their interconnection fee to a level similar to telkoms. Then we can call it a war if you like. :)

bwana : Their data rates are very good for cellular. In fact, I have read a couple of times that they are currently the cheapest in the world.

Add in high speed and good service...
