Just had to let people know that NZBSA has gone one further than any other local site. They are having a 25 GB Astraweb block account giveaway for their members.

Thanks NZBSA. Am waiting patiently for the start of this competition/giveaway. Hope I don't miss it though as I will be away for the Easter Holidays.

Its perfect for students who do not have extra cash but wish to download older content. Thanks.....Hope I win :)
 
Just checked again......Competition officially begins on Tuesday, but there are already some questions out that you can look for now.

Not to be ungrateful but 25 GB only costs $10 on Astraweb and $5 on Newsdemon. So this is hardly exciting.
 
Its exciting because some of us students do not have the $5 or $10 to purchase such accounts and even if we do, we do not have credit cards and I for one am reluctant to use my card in such places. Also for someone who has never used astraweb etc its a great opportunity to try it out and to see how it is.

For me something that is useable and free to someone is exciting.
 
This place only has Series? Where is the movies, and why is this better than torrents?

Torrents,depend on your peers and is frequently monitored on public trackers
NZBs are downloaded directly from public/private servers so no p2p element,generally ISPs have their own and if content is cached already it's usually downloaded at max speed

Of course Nzbsa has movies.....if you are a new member, access is limited until you fulfill some minimum requirements. Basically you will become a full fledged member in 3 days and have full access to everything on site.

Torrents you have to seed while you download. With nzbs you download what you want and you do not have to seed or fulfill ratios.

I haven't paid a cent for my usage. Only real reason for using premium servers is to get older content or if your ISP is one of the rare ones that don't have a server of their own
 
Thanks Psywulf and Masu. I will wait 3 days to check out the movies. Would be nice to see all the movies they have :)

As PsyWulf said, you do not have to have a premium account. You can use your ISP s news server....for example mweb or saix etc

Only if you want to download something very old then its good to have an account like astraweb.

@Nicci - you should definitely at least try nzbs. You wont be sorry. It you are unsure ask the moderators or some members for help. They are very helpful and will get you up and running in no time.
 
Does AH have a server with stuff on? Does one have to have an account with AH news swervers, or can I just use the NZB website you posted in the main post?
 
You use the nzbsa site to download the little nzb. Then you use altbinz for instance to download the actual episode or movie. For AH I think you just need to put news.is.co.za in the server address bar in altbinz.

Just go to the shoutbox on nzbsa and tell them you are new and then will give you links to the guides. If you are still stuck as for help. They are very friendly and helpful there.
 
I have just been on NZBSA now and the prize for the Astraweb competition is now a 180 GB giveaway :)
