Any post Easter deals on Media Players - hint, hint - I'm in the market for an AC Ryan player

Let me stop you right there, don't get the AC Ryan player. Although it works well for playing media, their firmware is not 100% still and although i have no regrets getting the player, after seeing what the HP MicroServer can do, having any other player is just not worth it imo. AC Ryan is limited aswel when it comes to the Jukebox setup, i though i would have the HP as a NAS then feed the media library to the AC Ryan but in the end it works out better to just have the box as the main player . More skin support using XBMC / addons / liveTV (SuperTV plugin) automated downloads etc etc.

With the HP you are more flexible and not limited to what the hardware chipset can handle wrt network speeds.

I gotta sorta agree on one model - the PlayOn Essential is an excellent player in the sense it plays every single format I throw at it, but there is zero firmware love for this model from ACRyan. Many things still don't work as it should have out of the box and updates are basically non-existing.

If all you want is something cheap that plays all your media and nothing fancier than that, it does it great, but for anything else you'll have to live with the problems without much hope of support. Forum here http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=147
