RIM restricts PlayBook, avoids “chaotic cesspool” of Android Market

This could be a very bad move for RIM....

They will have to have some very simple way to sideload Android apps if they want the Playbook to succeed
 
I can already see the problem as other andriod users download and install apps at will, while blackberry users are stuck to a [possibly outdated] blackberry approved install?

RIM has lost the plot. This doesnt benefit the customer in any way and is just an extra expense to RIM to maintain.

EDIT:
Calling Andriod market a “chaotic cesspool” wont be winninig any fans either.
 
“Piracy is a huge problem for Android devs, and we don’t want to duplicate the chaotic cesspool of Android Market,” said Saunders.

RIM claims that more than 25 percent of Android apps are downloaded illegally, and wants to avoid the same happening on the PlayBook.

Two things are being said there :

1: Its easy to pirate android apps
2: Android market is full of duplicate and throw away apps (see comments form IOS and Driod users)

So if people think that Android is successful because you can easily pirate the apps then that is a problem, because it means that app world is not sustainable.
You can argue it to death but the reason Apple is doing better and more devs are choosing IOS is because people purchase the apps and because of Apples QA.

From what I read in the article they are not removing Android apps they are filtering them like Apple does, and we know that's the better business model.
Its not the popular decision... but thats mostly because its going to be harder to pirate the apps.

Why should RIM concern themselves with the piracy of Android apps? Rather focus on developing and producing products people will desire and buy and if some owners do "bad" things with the devices then so be it. RIM has far bigger problems to overcome and limiting the abilities of their devices is not the right move for them now. The focus is again where it should not be - typical RIM.
 
Do they have some kind of deadline they need to hit for bankrupting themselves? Granted, this is just a small calibre shot to the foot, they've already shot themselves there with heavier artillery.

What's the best way to market a device hardly anyone has given 2 hoots about? That's right, make it less attractive. Even Sony execs are looking over the ocean saying "The what now?"
 
RIM wants their bread buttered on both sides. They want Android apps to push up the content/value of their App Market but they don't want the other side of that boost. The market will give its answer to that strategy and RIM won't like it.

Its amazing how a sinking ship can dish something that obviously is working for someone else as we can see the 50%+ market share.

Oh and when we talking about Piracy, its easier to pirate on some other OS's(Installuos) yet no one is complaining about that.

Sounds like something made up by George W. Bush, Fox News, or Apple's BS Division to "keep the fear alive."

That's normally what happens when you try to tell brainwashed people some unpleasant facts about something they like/own.

When RIM says it you can ignore it. When RIM says you are bad it is reason to celebrate.
 
hmm well the chaotic cesspool seems to be doing infinitely better than RIM, wonder what that makes them?
 
FYI RIM, I buy my apps. But if I wanted to, I could sidleload it. I have the choice.

Choice is one of the reasons I decided on Android instead of WP7.

I needed to sidleload some of my purchased apps because the developers did not verify that it was compatible with my device (even though the apps run on the same hardware of another brand)

Go shove your playbook where the sun doesn't shine.
