Hi, I have a WebAfrica prepaid account. Since Friday afternoon all local and international browsing has been completely dead. WebAfrica support said it's a Telkom issue that affects mainly Jhb users, and said the problem has been partly resolved, but they have no idea when access will be restored.

Has anyone experienced this issue? My ADSL router has connected, synched and authenticated to the DSLAM no problem. The only site I can visit is webafrica.co.za, everything else is dead. Have 1.3Gb left with my prepaid account so I'm not capped.

Please let me know if anyone else has had problems as well. If not, perhaps I should purchase an account with another ISP?

Thanks

I am in Jhb and have a WA prepaid account. No problems here.

Cheers

Abe

Hi, I am in JHB using TelkomInternet and IS. Have not been able to get access speed about 1K from Friday evening till this morning. Telkom ADSL support was less than useless, I am sure the person helping me did not even know what basic ADSL was or how it worked!

also having problems this weekend. 10G Webafrica

Ping statistics for 216.109.112.135:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 2, Lost = 2 (50% lo
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 342ms, Maximum = 345ms, Average = 343ms

cant get more than 1-2k/s.
i hate the fact that telkom will blame ISP and ISP will blame telkom. who do we complain to? its bull****.

Same thing here, I'm in Pretoria and getting about 20-25% packet loss, and absolutely useless download speeds. I have a 10GB SAOL Account.

Can't play Guild Wars or EVE Online at all

Had the same problem, phoned Webafrica and they blamed Telkom, Telkom blamed them saying nothing was wrong on their side... Then this morning everything is fine again.... strange?

Still not fixed for me though.

ADDED:

I just ran a speedtest, and according to it I have a 28.2Kbps downstream and 155 kbps upstream

Had the same problem, though I could not get anywhere - pings to first hop (165.146.0.1) were producing 40%+ packet loss.

This started around 12pm Friday, and was resolved just before midnight Saturday.

pot calling the kettle black?

I have multiple accounts and my WA account was almost at it's cap. Changed to my SAIX account and same result - little or no access.
The router connected and was authorised, however...... nada!
Today, everything is fine, weird ****.

I had the exact same problem. Friday at 11:00 am.. all internet access just went dead. I was connected sync'ed and so on, but couldn't view any sites, or even download mail, it would connect to my mail server, but that was it.

I then tried my SAOL account and my works telkomsa account. None of them worked...

When I phoned to report it to telkom, i also got told at was my ISP.. told them to take a long walk of a short pier and stop talking BS and fix it. Got back from a wedding today and its working

They are the only comman denominator in all of the above...So blame telkom!

I've got feedback from Telkom. I logged a call on Saturday morning. They called me back this afternoon and said that they had a network problem and that my service should a have been restored. Still only getting 18-20 kBps whereas previously the speed averaged around 31-33 kBps!

I've just looked at the SAIX Notice Board - there is NO mention of the Friday - Saturday issue at all.

That sounds about right, even though it effected certain people (like me) across 3 different ISP's all on the SAIX network.

However after phoning telkom to check up on my problems logged on Saterday with regard to this, I get told that the problems have been sorted out and the call was closed, with out even phoning me

Hi all, we have had an FQ (fault query) from Friday already with Telkom. It seems to affect a small number of clients in the Gauteng region.

Telkom often judges whether its their problem by the call volume in the call center. Clients have tested with SAIX accounts and the problem still occurs. Since its only some people so its obviously not a priority.

With the strikes and public holidays this problem is not getting addressed. A suggestion would be to take it up with the DSL call center and ask for a management clarification on the situation.

If we here anything official we'll post it here.

Hi guys,

Just some formal communication , Web Africa logged an FQ with Saix , early Saturday morning , which was closed on Monday. Please see response below:

FYI

Your SAIX Fault/Query has been resolved. The resolution description follows:
There were no SAIX outages over this period. However, there were a few outages on Telkoms side affecting connectivity on various DSLAM in Joburg. These have been reolved. Regards - SAIX Helpdesk.
Thank-you
