Goldin, Bloom simply 'in the wrong place'

In what appears to have been a terrifying last few hours alive, murdered creative talents Brett Goldin and Richard Bloom were reportedly abducted by a group of youngsters still high after a drug binge.
It has also come to light that a botched car theft and not a dodgy cocaine deal led to the deaths of the two men.
Police have confirmed that the first three suspects picked up in the early hours of Sunday April 16, hours after Goldin and Bloom had gone missing, were "trashed" and "high on tik and amphetamines".
Detective Inspector Steve Fourie, of the Camps Bay police station, one of the patrolmen who picked up three men in a blue Peugeot at 5am on Sunday for reckless driving, said at least one of the suspects was "really wasted".
'High on tik and amphetamines'
"The other two were more coherent. They were high on tik and amphetamines," Fourie said.
It has also emerged that among those arrested was a group of well-known young men who frequented Cape Town City Bowl venues, some of whom allegedly sold drugs outside popular clubs such as 169 on Long.
The club's management have distanced themselves from the suspects, saying drug-dealing was not allowed but admitting that some deals could have gone down in the streets outside.
Fourie said that while the three suspects were co-operative and "willing to accept" they were in possession of stolen clothing belonging to Goldin and Bloom, they denied knowing where Goldin's credit card, found in the car, had come from. Also discovered by police was R1 040 in cash and a bullet.
Bloom and Goldin were registered as missing after police found the credit card. After contacting the two victims' families and friends, it came to light that they were last seen leaving a house party in Victoria Road, Bakoven, before midnight on Saturday.
Hellish ride
Goldin was a popular actor, having garnered international fame as one of a trio of guys whose Crazy Monkey mini-videos made it on to MTV. Bloom was an up-and-coming fashion designer.
Fourie rubbished claims that the victims had been caught up in a drug deal, saying the claims were "total bull".
Police spokesperson Billy Jones also refused to be drawn on whether police were investigating a drug link, saying the primary motive was robbery.
As both men's cars were parked outside the Bakoven house, it is alleged some of the suspects had been trying to steal Bloom's grey VW Polo Playa when Bloom and Goldin disturbed them. "They were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time," Fourie said.
Bloom's car was found abandoned in the Vangate shopping mall on the following Wednesday morning.
Fourie said that on the Monday after three suspects were arrested, one of them pointed where the bodies might be found.
An extensive police search discovered the naked bodies of Bloom and Goldin, with their hands tied behind their backs and single bullet wounds to the head. It is believed they were shot where they were found, in a clump of trees on a traffic island created by the Klipfontein offramp from the M5.
On Wednesday this week, charges were withdrawn against Rameez Sayed (23), Travino Cairncross (25) and Anushka Anthony (22). Police sources confirmed that Sayed had turned state witness.
The matter has been postponed to Wednesday and all eight accused have been remanded to Pollsmoor Prison.
More information has also come to light about the fast lifestyle of the crowd that allegedly included drug-dealing by Clinton Davids, the brother of alleged Americans gang leader Igshaan Davids.
Sources allege they included youths well known for drug-dealing near trendy Long Street in the city centre. One of their favourite haunts apparently is the popular 169 on Long.
Fourie said there appeared to be no link to either gang activity or homophobia at this stage.
However, gang sources said there were accounts of how the victims had been taken up a mountain on a hellish ride by some of the suspects.
The sources claim they tried in vain to escape their kidnappers and then had their hands tied - evidenced by the manner in which their bodies were found.
There are also allegations of a gang link to the crime and that certain gang members have threatened to kill Sayed for leading police to the crime scene.
Contacted for comment, Igshaan Davids said through a spokesperson that he intended suing "trashy tabloids" for trying to link his name to the crimes.
