The latest to give up on tv

Not only pay tv, today I cancelled my top tv and I do not have any way of recieving sabc as I gave those aerials away years back.

Main reason?

I go sit on the couch and turn on the tv because I am bored. The the repeats and crap not only bore me but frustrate me as well.

My solution? Kill em all, no more bored-frustration, no more false hopes.

If I want to watch something my DVD collection is big enough.

Cheers you lying bunch of thieves, it's not been great :)

DVD's ftw. You can pick up series' for R120 these days.
I watch about 2 series and sport right now, the rest is from my DVD/Blu collection.
 
Well done! I convinced the missus to cancel DSTV 2 years ago and we gave away the TV. I got an LCD and a media player and we're sorted! We rarely feel that we're missing out on interesting programs, since ADSL, gaming and our HTPC (upgraded from the MP last year) provide more than enough entertainment

mate one day I'll grow cojones like you and do the same. at the moment, too scared. plus the wife is into dstv.
 
I'd do the same if there was another way to feed my sport addiction.

I have not owned a TV in the last 14 months and I do not miss it at all.

Anything I watch I watch on / from the Interwebz barring sport which I go to the Pub / a friend's house for.
 
If we want to watch a sport thing, we either stream it or go to someones house.

If I want to watch a repeat I'll just torrent it or something.

News comes off the web as does weather.

The problem with going to somebody's house is that if/when they decide to do the same thing, you'll soon run out of places to watch sport. If there's a decent international service that covers our cricket and rugby, I'd definitely sign up for it.

naaa, fil loves his pvr to much.
 
anyway I'd rather listen to it on the radio than pay what dstv demand for the possibly 1/2 hour a month of sport I may be interested in.

Well Done AstroTurf! Welcome to the club. Gave up on TV about 14 months ago. Only Media Player and DVD's / Blurays. Haven't seen SABC news in over a year! it's been heaven.
 
I gave up on DSTV Premium and sold off my SD-PVR to a friend about three years ago - never looked back!

I did have DSTV EasyView for a while last year purely as the house I was in had a dish but no antenna, but since I moved I cancelled that, and now only watch the 7 pm news on e-tv now and again (using a bunny ears) as I am still a valid SABC TV Licence holder - LOL!.

I mainly watch various series I have on my external drive instead - currently watching Big Bang Theory here!

I use the R 7,200 a year I save for travel and entertainment purposes instead!
 
If I got options in terms of Epl and F1, I'll jump ship in a hurry. Everything else not worth it to me.

This is how to wean your wife of DSTV

Sequence:
Day 1-DSTV Premium
Day 31-DSTV Compact + HTPC
Day 61-DSTV Select 1 or 2 + HTPC
Day 92-and then bam one day she wakes up and there's no more DSTV and she doesn't even notice its off for 2 weeks because you haven't watched anything worthwhile on it for 2 months.
Then you tell her that you can't justify having it on because no one is ever watching it.

Just make sure you cancel your sabc tv subscription.i remember another thread about a guy going to england and when he came back he had a phat sabc bill.he didnt watch it,but he also didnt cancel it.

i barely watch tv.like once every now and then when im at other peoples houses. i dont even own a tv.grats!

If you own a TV you need a license. Whether you're watching SABC or not is irrelevant.
 
I plan to do the same when (if ever) Telkom restores my ADSL, used to sync at 6mbps but currently not even syncing at 2mpbs and overall performance is dismal so not really an alternative.
