Anyone been to Lagos in Nigeria recently?

Looks like I might have to go do some work there for a few days. I can't say that Nigeria appeals to me as a great place to go to, but I'm trying to push the preconceptions aside and give it a fair chance, but depending on which site you visit it's either doom and gloom or a bustling metropolis.

Anyone been there recently who cares to share?
 
Well my lost great great uncle lived in nigeria and left me a huge sum of money :D He has died about five times :D
 
I worked in Lagos about 4 years ago. One word describes it. Filthy.

Not a nice place at all but I hear the other provinces are nice.

You won't see grass, dogs or cats in that city. They do have these giant lizards things as pests that crawl into houses and on walls that have to be seen to be believed.

And how was the general safety aspect? Much the same as SA or worse?

Different the heat and humidity will bother much more. Just use common sense. Don't travel late at night. Army is visible takes cares of security that helps.

You can walk in street during the day. You won't get kidnapped in Lagos if that is what you ask.
Being driven in peak traffic every day is not going to be good for your health as the idea of a following distance during that time is 1 cm due to having no road rules, lanes or robots.
 
I hear the weather is wonderful this time of the year!

I did get the idea that the roads were insane (as with most African countries - SA ain't far off the way people drive these days IMO). Hopefully logistics will place hotel & work in close proximity :D
 
I was there in 2010 and was surprised to see that its much safer than SA. Much dirtier than SA but lot of Safers around Lagos, especially Victoria Island. Roads are terrible and don't drive.
 
I only have one piece of advice: Get a driver...never ever drive yourself & you will be fine
