Ekurhuleni takes Monday off

The Ekurhuleni municipality has decided to give itself the day off on Monday.

"To avoid the disruption of service delivery and the subsequent low turnout at the service points April 30, 2012, has been declared a municipal holiday," said spokesman Justice Mohale on Wednesday.

"The day will automatically be deducted from employees' annual leave."

Mohale said the municipality took into consideration that Monday fell between two national holidays (April 27 and May 1), and a high number of employees had applied for leave on the day.

"Administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls, pay points, non-essential and non-emergency services will not be operational on the day," Mohale said. Libraries would also be closed on Saturday, April 28.

Mohale, however, said emergency services, water and electricity services, and the manning of some pay points would not be affected by the closure.

as I said before, South Africans are the most lazy and unless workforce I ever experienced. you won't find other places' labours will not take days off between public holidays because every companies know that those days will be the busiest days and most of employees are not allowed to take a leave for those days.

We got told by our HR today to take annual leave for monday and it was compulsory.

Boss gave us off Monday. I actually put in leave for Monday...and he said he will give that day back to me . I just cant seem to get rid of me leave days. Have something like 20 accumilated lol.

I have not had a holiday for two years now...hence way I have so many leave days. Many of us work hard just to pay the bills. If a holiday or a freeby comes a long...I will grab it with both hands damn you!
