The Ekurhuleni municipality has decided to give itself the day off on Monday.

"To avoid the disruption of service delivery and the subsequent low turnout at the service points April 30, 2012, has been declared a municipal holiday," said spokesman Justice Mohale on Wednesday.

"The day will automatically be deducted from employees' annual leave."

Mohale said the municipality took into consideration that Monday fell between two national holidays (April 27 and May 1), and a high number of employees had applied for leave on the day.

"Administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls, pay points, non-essential and non-emergency services will not be operational on the day," Mohale said. Libraries would also be closed on Saturday, April 28.

Mohale, however, said emergency services, water and electricity services, and the manning of some pay points would not be affected by the closure.

I wonder whether anyone will notice they are not working.

Most companies are closing down on monday, it's pointless being open. People will take the day off and you will end up with barely any staff and the ones who do rock will be in holiday mode :p

I hate april, bad for business.

I have heard from many people that their children won't be going to school on monday either so I guess it is being done many places.

At least they warned people....

We are at work on Monday... but I expect it will be a very quiet day! :(

Monday is a gazetted School Holiday... so they don't have to worry about taking their kids to school.... lol. :D

as I said before, South Africans are the most lazy and useless workforce I ever experienced. you won't find other places' labours will not take days off between public holidays because every companies know that those days will be the busiest days and most of employees are not allowed to take a leave for those days.

We got told by our HR today to take annual leave for monday and it was compulsory.

Look at Mauritius and public holidays :D

I work for a Taiwanese boss and he'd chain me to the desk if he could get away with it.

I have not had a holiday for two years now...hence way I have so many leave days. Many of us work hard just to pay the bills. If a holiday or a freeby comes a long...I will grab it with both hands damn you! :p
