Bandwidth Monitor Software

Hello all

Can anyone advise on a bandwidth monitoring programme (freeware?) that I can run on my home PC to compare to iBursts figures.

I did google it, but there seem to be quite a few and I am hoping that there is a general consensus of which is the better one.

I'm trying it now. I've noticed that my UL and DL totals still keep incrementing eventhough I am not busy with anything on the net.
I am connected via a wireless USB plug to a wireless router, which is connected to my UTD (iBurst).
Can it be picking up communications between these 2 devices?
I have ensured that any programmes that could be DL'ing have been stopped - like Av and SKYPWE etc!
 
I have the same set-up as you Wino and use DUMeter, its not neccesarily the best, I just havent bothered dl'ing a new one beacuase I dont use it very often. Netmeter might well be the best.

However my connecion goes down to 0kb up and down when i'm not using the connection at all. I dont have any traffic between devices at all most of teh time. So yur shure its no other programs, not even windows update or anything? That would have been my first geuss.

Well Im lookig at my Netmeter now and it did just go up to 0.5kb/s (kilobits not even Bytes) but it was at dead 0 for about 5 mins right now.
If this is the same as you are talking about then it could well just be communication between the devices, I'm shure that does happen.

I'm sure its not Windows update because I do that manually. Perhaps someone else know?
I suppose if its monitoring a port and the wireless connections are thorugh that port - then it will pick it up as traffic?
 
I also used to get mysterious bandwidth usage on my cell connection until I got rid of all spyware.

Aaah - that makes sense!
How do I get rid of all my spyware though?
I do seem to get a few unecessary pop-ups now and then.

Having now installed XSoft Spyware detector and remover, I am certain (??) that Ido not have any resident spyware pgms running, its not windows update, I do manual AV updates - and yet my net meter graph still ticks over.

Any ideas on what I am missing here?

I reccomend you use a firewall and a good AV. You can get SpyBot search and destrpy or/and adaware to search for current spyware and then a good Firewall should keep you safe from future threats.

And importantly, what browser are you using? IE is very succeptable to spyware through active-x etc.
Rather use Firefox or Opera.

btw.. how big is this usage the "ticks away"? Is it similar to mine... arounf 0.5kb and such like.
If you get Outpost Firewall you can check every port that is open and every port that is causing any network activity. This will probably be able to tell you what it is. Outpost also has built in anti-spware and a adblocker that works for every browser and even MSN etc.

Wino: Is the "unsolicited" data incoming or outgoing and how much data is it for each? If it's mostly incoming someone might be scanning you. Sometimes killing some processes one at a time tells you what it is.

It seems to be mainly DL - up to 5KB/s
I have configured my SMC wireless router firewall as best I can, is that enough?

Perhaps I should try Firefox - just to see if there is an immediate difference?
 
OK, so now I bought and installed Spyware Doctor, which found 133 infections on my PC and fixed them.

This doesnt stop my net meter graph ticking over though.
Seems to be either 0.1KB or 4.6KB exactly - alternating!

I agree that elimanating processes is my last resort - just didnt want to go there.
