4850 Crossfire? at this day and age.....?

Hi all, i would like to know if another 4850, would be a viable choice for me, and if possible good performance gain.(Either a single card might be/do better)
For now i am limited on cash...and not willing to spend too much(don't know what the price would be like).
I have a LGA75 intel motherboard, with a quad core cpu Q6600. So it would also mean i would need to upgrade my board too.
So how should i go about it?

Some games would scale pretty well on high resolutions with a CrossFire setup.

How much can you get another HD4850 for?
Please take note that a single HD7770/HD6850 (costs around R1500) would outperform the CrossFire setup in every possible way.

What is your current system specs (PSU, motherboard, RAM, CPU cooler, screen resolution & operating system in particular)?

Lastly, what games do you (want to) play?

Haha! Of course you do get Socket 775 motherboards with CrossFire support! ;)
eg. this expensive one: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/Rampage_Extreme/#specifications * there would be cheaper alternatives of course, but I'm too lazy to search for a cheaper one now

One problem, which is perhaps also a good thing, is that you can't really buy high end Socket 775 motherboards new any more. You'll need to go 2nd-hand.
 
Don't even think of crossfire with a 4850. Get a single 7770 which would be cheaper, faster and has DX11 support.
 
Thanx a lot guys for the help, i guess the best would be to go for a new single gpu with the latest tech instead.
Cant dish out now for a new board and cpu, just wanting a good performance, because i cant even play crisis 3 smoothly nor my other games, skyrim all below low settings , and the witcher2 , since i bought it, still haven't played it due to cant play it smoothly.

Thanx, ived been checking out prices and the 6790 has a higher clock speed than the 6850, but not stream processes.
6790 going for R1470 and the 6850 R1885 at takealot.co.za
I see the 7770 is at R1633 higher clock speeds but bit rate is at 128bit.
There's no listing of the 6870 price and specs , so i'm not sure if the low bit rate would be viable to go for.
My gaming resolution is at 1680 x 1050 monitor i would say, but i hardly ever take it that high, i go lower than that most of the time with my games.
