I want to send my brother to a SMART GROUP sales rep course.
He is not in the industry, but would like some sort of qualification to get there.

Content of the course
SMART Healthcare Representative's Course

Introduction

An effective healthcare representative is one who can communicate with healthcare customers’ in their language!

the base of this language is the anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology of all the body systems, plus an understanding of how the healthcare industry operates.

the Smart Group’s Healthcare Representatives course has, since 1992, provided this background for representatives working for, or individuals wishing to work for, healthcare companies.

Training is conducted on a modular basis. Lectures are held on 13 Saturday mornings in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. the course May also be completed by correspondence (self study).

Delegates are assessed by self assessments, mini-tests, an examination, a territory assignment and a selling skills role-play.

Delegates who achieve a minimum of 70% overall receive a certificate

Benefits

Broadens the anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology knowledge of current and new representatives.
Ensures all representatives, current and new, have a standard base of knowledge
Enables all representatives to communicate on a professional level with customers
Expands the representative's knowledge beyond current therapeutic areas
Permits cross pollination of ideas between delegates attending the training.

Objective

To facilitate entry into a career in healthcare sales for people lacking the appropriate qualification or experience

Is the course worth it? My wife works for a big pharmaceutical and the sales reps there go for this course. I was wondering if other pharmaceutical companies also recommend this course.

This is computer forum ! ! ! WTF Dom verby :D And no I don't want viagra . . .

Course is good but jobs are not always easy to come by. First pick always goes to experienced reps. But this is a foot in the door at a reasonable price.

Thank you. I'll recommend he volunteers for a couple of months to get more experience.

Yep. My wife did the course and she learnt a lot. her background was in Microbiology, but even armed with a University Degree AND a SMART diploma she still had a tough time finding a job. Preference was always given to people with experience. At the end of the day she decided not to pursue a career in medical repping, and she is probably better off for it.

The course is still good though. It teaches you a lot about anatomy, physiology and what different types of drugs are used for. My wife had lots of experience reps in her class, as well as people from all backgrounds. The nice thing is that if you end up the top of your class then there is a *good* chance of getting hired and the lecturers used to work in the industry and still have many contacts.

Tx for the info. It was recommended to me by my wife. I'm just trying to help my brother since he is unemployed with no qualification. Just a year or so of call center experience and he is really demotivated.

I will give him the info and see if it will list his spirits up.
